hahahahahaha :hilarious:

Never thought this steel looked any good and got the cheap, ugly German one as id never seen the film but want to watch it seeing as its JJ Abrams

I forsee a congested ebay tomorrow as people with 5 copies realise they may soon be worth a little less than theyd hope ;)

Well I missed out on this one but I don't agree on the re-release of identicle artwork. There be some unhappy members now. Good for me because now I can buy one at £15 instead of minimum £100, bad for some :( (and I know who they are)

Thanks for the info Wreck. Whatever it is, it means I can completely stop looking for the first release at a reasonable price. I'm damned if I'm paying those prices when this is out for £15 with the same movie.

I agree and I bet because they are doing this we see the second one released this year to go along with it.

Well, guess I'm happy about selling the old Play one last year for £50. XD

Think I'll pick it up. Pity it won't be 3 discs, but then again, I'm not a huge Trekie, so meh.

And heck, who knows? The same thing could be done to promote the Cap America and/or Thor sequels, wink wink. ;)

I am against all sorts of re releases because it strikes at the heart of a collector's motivation to continue collecting. Also it is so unfair to the collectors who already have the original Star Trek Play. It will be a repeat of the effect IM Play had on IM FS. The abundance of this 1 disc Star Trek will remove some of the demand for the original Star Trek Play.

I am personally not unhappy that there is such a re release because I have been looking for a Star Trek Play. But I do feel for all collectors who already have the original Star Trek Play.

I feel more sorry for someone who paid £100 - £150 for it and only to find its been re-released. It hurts the collectors that paid the premium.

It's not unfair to anyone that purchased a copy for themselves, since whatever they paid for it was worth it to them - and that price is still what it's worth since they justified the price to themselves. I've paid over the odds for a steel before (Man on Fire before it was 'back in stock' at Zavvi. Admittedly that's not on the same level but still) but at the time it was worth it to me so to see it come down in price when they found more stock didn't bother me. I've also done it for the likes of Iron Man Play, but if that came out for £14.99 tomorrow it wouldn't bother me - at the time what I paid was worth it to me and I have zero intention to sell it anyway so a value drop has no effect on me.

The only people this re-release will hurt is the ones that own more than one copy of the same steel - and I can't think of a single reason for anybody doing so aside from to make money. It's really, really hard to feel sorry for those people.

I think you are bang on. I would add that monetary value is not necessarily the most important factor of a steelbooks value to a collector.

goodness...I just bought a used futureshop version. Oh well, I would have ended up deciding I 'need' the 3 disc version anyways.

At least now everyone has a chance to grab this.

FS version is different, it has cleaner deep white colour than the Play version, and less of the dark 'whoosh' colours as it travels in warp speed!
