This is really sad. PLAY and HMV did a great job in releasing awesome exclusive Steelbooks with a relatively low count of copys without re-releases. And now since they are dead Zavvi comes along and ruins everything. I will not support that with my money by getting one of their customers!

And to the new Steelbook...this may be good looking. But it will always be a cheap piece of metal without any ideally worth.

Play were notorious for re-releases mate.

Not surprised.

I can't see this devaluing the '1st print' by a great deal. As pointed out before... the 1st will always be the 1st... but for the casual buyer/collector who wants one to open - this is it!

I may even buy this version now if its a good price.

:hilarious: Don't even go there mate EEK!

The older steels have that quality feel about them...Re-releases tend to have non premuim finishing, printed back etc...Time will tell I suppose

Although I agree with that, I have seen a few reprints lately that have been a lot better than 1st prints, i.e. Cloverfield, Collateral and War of the Worlds.

If it has a War of the Worlds quality, then we could be on to a winner!

I knew of it, but found out too late to put any stopping to it. (If I even could have...) I have much better relation now with zavvi and I'll try to do my best to stop re-releases with same art going forward.

In any case, its not 3 disc, its not gonna be heavy gauge steel like the old quality titles. And we'll see about gloss. Probably not heavy gloss like the old.

Thanks for the info as always, but did they give any reasons why they were doing this and why they specifically chose Star Trek? Also I take it Zavvi have free reign on every Play.com release to date?

The cynical side of me think they've chosen Star Trek, which was Play's first exclusive (not counting Sweeney Todd with book) because they intend to go through each Play.com former exclusive re-releasing them. Hope you talk some sense into them.

Studios unfortunately are never going to no are they when it means more money.

I heard that Zavvi or Amazon wont be getting any exclusivity on any of Play's Paramount Steelbook Titles. Is this true?

True...But we are talking about a Grail

Oh dear. I don't own the original, but for the sake of this hobby, I really hope there is at least a small difference compared to the original.

If anything, reprints make the 1st print more collectible. At first, yes, it will devalue the 1st print, but after time, the 1st print becomes more desirable.

Not if the artwork is an exact copy. I hope this has different artwork and the current image is just a placeholder.

The difference being in your logic that this will more than likely be exactly the same in terms of artwork (front, back, inside).

Most collectors will just want it in their collection and be delighted it's available again.

So all in all, the demand for the original or even the FS version will diminish. Demand is always the factor in determining the price of a steel.
