And this is not the steelbook but just giving you idea on how it would look with the front and back. ie. giving the collector the choice of which side they want as front so you can switch the plates.

I'm... confused. Having a second release with different artwork? How is this supposed to help in any way?

This could be a winner by zaavi. Looking at roger rabbit, wreck's comment on their packaging and the all round improved show they are putting up now, I think this could be one of the firsts!

this is gd news but i always wanted to own the star trek that play released i think its one of the nicest steels out there with a cool design but i'l never pay the ebay prices unless i win the lottery lol, will have to see this design first but i too hope there is no people on the front, lets hope we get some unique design with embossing/debossing.

Very interesting.

I too have preordered the first one, but depending on which one has the better art (or no blue banner) I'll get that one.

It's nice to have a choice. I consider it a choice as I only ever get one steelbook of a title no matter how many are offered. Always the one I like the look of the most, regardless of price or rarity.

This is what they should have announced in the first place. I'm glad they are making something new. There is a concern though with all of this over saturation for one title in such a short amount of time.

A nice compromise, one release for those of us who love the simplistic artwork of the Play one but dont want to pay the crazy prices for one and another release for the collectors who want another version with different art...

Depending on the artwork I could end up getting the 'new' one after all....or both lol

Completely agree with this.

Why reprint 8000 of the original and then release an alternative one?

Why not just release an alternative one and preserve the Play.com original?

Smells and feels like lets milk them for all we got to me.

Why do I get the feeling like the UK steelbook market is going to end up like Amazon Germany?

I fail to see how this is good for collectors. This is turing out to be a non collector market. Collectors collect because of the rarity. This title getting a re-print and then another art on top of that is just flooding the market and no longer collectable. :(

Have you got this post saved somewhere ready to be copy and pasted every time a Steelbook gets a re-run? You may collect 'because of rarity', but you don't speak for all collectors I'm afraid.

This is great news for those new to collecting, or those that refuse to pay the prices the Play and FS Steels now command. I own the Play Steel and I welcome both releases. I was hoping someone would pick up HMV's slack in the UK and I'm excited to see what Zavvi can come up with.

Glossy or matte, 'bossed or flat, original art or re-print, Steelbooks will always be collectable to me.

Hobbit is having tons of diff art and many folks are mostly pleased. Zavvi did not start the push for the reprint as again its trade wide .. more Countries will get it. They will have limited qty of the bigger picture aka run.
