NEW UPDATE 8/13/2013:

We have a short update on the finish details for our 2 exclusive Star Trek Into Darkness steelbooks. Both the steelbook in the Villain Edition and the Hero Edition steelbook will have debossed title treatments and be matte finishes. We had some fantastic ideas for the ***8220;special packaging***8221; we promised for the Hero Edition, but unfortunately the time constraints of turning this around in just over a month before the release date meant that none of them were possible. The Entertainment Store exclusive sticker that has been on our previous releases will be on these releases too, and we can only apologise for being able to make the Hero Edition special rather than extra special.

All is not lost though ***8211; some of the special packaging we had planned for Star Trek Into Darkness will be present on our next release, which we will be announcing exclusively via HDN on Tuesday 20th August. You won***8217;t be disappointed, I promise!

The limited edition Steelbooks are limited to 4,000 copies each, and will be available to Pre-order from The Entertainment Store on Play.com from midday Friday July 19th 2013.

Since its arrival in March 2013 The Entertainment Store has been working closely with Paramount Home Entertainment and have already teamed up to bring us exclusive Blu Ray SKUs such as GI Joe and Hansel and Gretel but this latest batch of releases look to be the most interesting yet. The E-tailer distributes product directly from the Studio warehouses so the product is guaranteed as authentic and of the highest quality.

I was prepared for the Amazon version to be considerably cheaper than the ES one, but as I prefer the art on this one to the Amazon one (although I do like that too) and as this is only a couple of pounds more Ive gone with this ES exclusive. Yeah the Amazon one may go down in price a little but Im not all that fussed, Ive got my preferred artwork choice at a price Im reasonably happy with (Id prefer it to be around the £17 mark but lets face it, that was never gonna happen) I do like their villain alternative steelbook but can live without the very expensive toy spaceship

Anyone know if Amazons is also a 2D/3D combo? the listing is a bit vague, if it isnt it makes the ES one even more appealing from a value point of view, even if I dont have a 3D setup

As far as I know, the Amazon UK contains just the 2D version.

I think I'll just pre-order all 3 UK Into Darkness steelbook's and then decide later.

This one most likely be the standard £26.99 and the Villian one being £40+ with its extra's (Deluxe packaging featuring a 1:50 scale model of the USS Vengeance) and the amazon one being £17-£22 and more likely 2D only.

Am I missing something? I can't seem to locate the amazon steelbook.

There is a good chance that the amazon one will for a time drop as low as £16.50. even lower possibly if a crapload are printed and they find it difficult shifting the stock

china (blusomthing) also have a fake exclusive with this art out of a choice of three. as their allotment is really low, it should show up elsewhere also i think
