Old Updates & infos:
NEW UPDATE 8/13/2013:
We have a short update on the finish details for our 2 exclusive Star Trek Into Darkness steelbooks. Both the steelbook in the Villain Edition and the Hero Edition steelbook will have debossed title treatments and be matte finishes. We had some fantastic ideas for the ***8220;special packaging***8221; we promised for the Hero Edition, but unfortunately the time constraints of turning this around in just over a month before the release date meant that none of them were possible. The Entertainment Store exclusive sticker that has been on our previous releases will be on these releases too, and we can only apologise for being able to make the Hero Edition special rather than extra special.

All is not lost though ***8211; some of the special packaging we had planned for Star Trek Into Darkness will be present on our next release, which we will be announcing exclusively via HDN on Tuesday 20th August. You won***8217;t be disappointed, I promise!

PREVIOUS UPDATE:
A stunning 2D and 3D blu-ray plus digital copy steelbook. Limited to 4,000 copies and available exclusively from The Entertainment Store. Finish, embossing, release date and pricing TBC, but we have really special plans for the packaging.

Original infos:From our friends at Entertainment Store in the UK:
The Entertainment Store Boldly goes where other E-tailers cannot

The fastest growing Entertainment E-tailer on the Marketplace, The Entertainment Store, continues its strong exclusive packaging offering in September 2013 with the introduction of 2 2D and 3D Blu Ray Steelbooks for Star Trek: Into Darkness Home Entertainment release.

The limited edition Steelbooks are limited to 4,000 copies each, and will be available to Pre-order from The Entertainment Store on Play.com from midday Friday July 19th 2013.

Since its arrival in March 2013 The Entertainment Store has been working closely with Paramount Home Entertainment and have already teamed up to bring us exclusive Blu Ray SKUs such as GI Joe and Hansel and Gretel but this latest batch of releases look to be the most interesting yet. The E-tailer distributes product directly from the Studio warehouses so the product is guaranteed as authentic and of the highest quality.

So its basically its... we promise you something special with star trek so pre order it before this sells out Then .... Hold on it too late now to give you this special promised exclusive gift but thanks for your money anyway but if you pre order our next super title you will get it included with it.... And by the way sorry but no goodwill refund for our cock up as we know you are steelbook collectors and will buy this title anyway.. Thanks for the money though,,,, RANT OVER

Fully agree. I know we can still cancel but that's not the point. The point is that the promise of 'we're doing something special' was used as bait for pre-orders.

Hey guys, please no attacks here. Plans change and sometimes things occur outside of the control of any given party. At least they told us when there was a change. There is no reason to believe anything was done maliciously here folks. There was also no mention of a gift in the original announcement. If you have specific comments about your order feel free to contact the retailer directly. If you feel you'd rather not receive this exclusive that is your prerogative but lets not sling around accusations and conspiracies on this site. Thanks.

I, for one, didn't join the Group Buy because they promised something special. I wanted to get this because I have exclusives #1-3. Is it disappointing that we aren't going to get whatever extra that was: Maybe. Is it worth dumping out of the Group Buy: No, cause it was extra on top of the SB.

At least they admitted it and didn't let us find out on our own.

To be fair this is not the first time something has mysteriously happened with ES, be it this "packaging problem" or their "limited numbers".

These combined with the already high purchase prices and obvious lack of "goodwill" or "customer care" which has been made more than obvious in their email reply to bobafettish66 regarding a possible price reduction has annoyed many members of this site and rightly so. They might as well have said, "if you don't like it go else where" IMO.

If this forum is used as a platform for them to advertise & sell their items so should it be used by members to voice their concerns, opinions and disappointment.

It seems to me that anyone who doesn't follow the crowd or who comments negatively about ES have their posts edited, deleted or get called a "hater".

Make of that what you will.

The OP clearly stated that most things were 'TBC' but that they had 'have really special plans for the packaging'. There were no details at all on what that might include though. Anyone who read too much into that has no one to blame but themselves.

I agree with DB. This site isn't here to be used as a platform for accusations. I'm fed up of reading similar comments on Zavvi. I think some need to get a grip as a few take the hobby way too seriously. At the end of the day, it is just a hobby and in the grand scheme of things it does not matter. ES didn't deliver what they promised? Cancel your order and move on, it's that simple.

Not if your apart of a group buy

I'm sure the group buy hosts will be accommodating to members who have changed their mind upon hearing this news.

There's a huge difference between 'voicing concerns, opinions and disappointment' and some comments some members here make which are often baseless and just malicious.

Sorry bud but I have to disagree with the bait comment, and that has been null and voided anyway by the honesty from ES ahead of charging those pre-orders to allow you to cancel if you weren't happy with the product.

Not many retailers would have done that. Fact.

As a general comment, it is disappointing that their Star Trek doesn't have a special finish. But there isn't exactly a lack of options out there to get another version if you are that unhappy with the situation. I personally still reckon this ES version looks the best and if there wasn't time to sort the special finish on the ES one then none of the others are going to have anything special either, surely. A real shame in general but not worth getting angry over.

Here on HDN we are privileged to get so much info around steelbook exclusives that those other forums can't offer, and it seems some take that for granted sometimes. This retailer has done nothing wrong and they are probably feeling equally deflated by the situation, but on reading this thread I doubt they'd want to give any extra tidbits upfront if this is what could happen! Let's hope that's not the case.

So I have this ordered.. Then the amazon one and now another one is being announced on Tuesday... Is this right.. 3 different versions..
What is going on...

There are already three versions of 'Star Trek'. The announcement on the 20th is the title of their next release.

I'm really curious about this next release. There's still no confirmation of a UK steelbook for Man of Steel. If they did something special for that I would be really happy. As long as it includes 3D.

Folks, as a reminder please keep the discussion to the title in the OP. Posts are not deleted or edited unless they are based in false accusation, personal attacks or off-topic rants or serve no purpose but to poison people with negativity ( which begets negativity). Our community has always encouraged all types of feedback for all retailers and has been an advocate for limited edition enthusiasts for years. All releases can be discussed here. As has been stated numerous times in all retailer threads, if you don't want an edition or don't like how a retailer is packaging something or selling it, vote with your pocket and don't buy it. Our site is a platform for information-a retailer is free to make their own decisions regarding pricing, packaging, etc. Most times all of this 'advance' info is NOT even available, at all as far as specifics of the box, material, hue of orange, size of speckles on the front forehead of Thor, etc. We buy things and when they arrive we are either pleased or not. In those cases you return it-catch 22-if advanced notice or info changes people are also upset. If a retailer doesn't say when something has changed, then they are lying. If they tell you what's changed, but you never knew what exactly it was to begin with, people ask to have a discount. Come on folks....

FYI-rest assured if and when other exclusives are available from ES or other retailers separate threads will be posted. Thanks all.

So what am I suppose to be missing here then ? All I'm aware of is what's on the ES store. From what I can see nothing different. Not aware of any thing special beyond the hot wheels villain edition and the Heroes artwork on the other (as far as I'm aware.}; although wasn't the Heroes cover initially on the Spanish steel before it reverted to the Villain edition.

What happens about those members who want to purchase the steelbook but feel ostracised due to the way a seller prices or packages their exclusive?

Should they remain silent and not voice their opinion by registering their disappointment on an open forum?

Our site is a platform for information-a retailer is free to make their own decisions regarding pricing, packaging, etc.

No one is saying that they can't, but by the same token surely members should be free to make their own comments regarding such matters as well? As long as it isn't trolling.

Most times all of this 'advance' info is NOT even available, at all as far as specifics of the box, material, hue of orange, size of speckles on the front forehead of Thor, etc.

Sorry but that is just being pedantic. If things aren't set in stone why mention them in the first place and risk damaging your customer base. It's because if you don't get people interested by whetting their appetites with possibilities then your pre-orders/sales won't be as good. Also when you are in a privileged position to have a relatively isolated customer base that has very little option to go else where you can do pretty much anything to them and they will still keep coming back for more.

Who's fault is that? Six of one, half a dozen of the other if you ask me.

If a retailer doesn't say when something has changed, then they are lying. If they tell you what's changed, but you never knew what exactly it was to begin with, people ask to have a discount.

As already mentioned above, if things aren't set in stone why mention them in the first place? Also, there is nothing wrong with asking for a discount. They were prepared to offer free replacements of the JR steelbook for a mistake, why wouldn't people think they would be as obliging again with another gesture of goodwill?
