Gorgeous steelbook. Easily in the top 5 of the year, I don't have any of the blufans releases to compare as to see if it's*#1 as oz and face off do look very nice but out of the steelbooks i own, this is #1 for me. It's just a shame the inside clip is broken on mine :( Only a small problem though and it doesn't take away from the beauty

So what is getting everyone so excited about this? A glossy cover? Seriously? Is that all it takes to be 'SteelBook of the Year'? Please.

Granted, it is a nice cover, but it is the same cover art that is all over North American DVD and BD covers. Overused. No originality. You might as well love the 101 DALMATIANS or PETER PAN cover art. The Mexican SteelBook, albeit G1, has much nicer art.

Secondly, it is expensive. $50.00 for a movie that is going for $10.00 in the bargain bins now means they are making $40 profit on the SteelBook. This movie came out four years ago! What else came out four years ago?

Would you pay $50 for one of those movies? That's not including shipping. Everyone and their dog has seen this movie by now. It is playing for free at the McDonald's in my neighbourhood.

Thirdly, there are these blemishes. What is up with that? Is that supposed to be a feature? I guess people are happy with it because if I'm paying a premium price for a SteelBook, there has to be a reason for it.

Nice SteelBook, OK, I will give you that. But SteelBook of the Year? Obviously some people have never owned a Blufans SteelBook because even WRECK-IT-RALPH (a mediocre movie) had a nicer SteelBook treatment than TANGLED.

I won't criticize either without sticking out my own neck. My nominations for SB of the Year would be:
WRECK-IT-RALPH (Blufans)
OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (Blufans)
ONLY GOD FORGIVES (Zavvi)
THE PRESTIGE (Zavvi)

just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.

Talk about over-reaction.

I do own Blufans steelbook but My WIR steelbook from blufans had lots of scratches on it, which made it very disappointing. Also, I didn't like how different the front and the back ended up being.

Tangled is good due to many things:

* Ease of ordering (no complicated group buy just buy it straight from the store {param} actually, Tangled ended up being cheaper for me on both the price of the Steelbook and the shipping cost).
* The lenticular is gorgeous
* The front cover is similar to the amaray but that's usually what I want in a Steelbook: an official cover from the studio. Not some weird-ass fanart or illustration or screenshot just for the sake of being original/new (see: Pan's Labyrinth, From Dusk Til Dawn).
* The extras are not bad either. Those stickers and cards (I love those faux credit card collector thing).
* Minimal foreign words on the cover of the slipcase.
* But most importantly: they had the foresight to actually shrink-wrapped the Steelbook before sliding it into the slipcover to prevent any scratches.

Agree with most of what you said except Pan's Labyrinth is not some "weird-ass fan art" it is offical poster art for the move by Drew Motherf**king Struzan!

That artwork is wicked awesome IMHO and one the last things Thomas Jane's character ever painted in The Mist. :)

Ooops!! My bad! :ohno:

Oooh, I never realized that. Speaking of "The Mist", now that's another film needs a Steelbook treatment. I have my German Steelbook but foreign text on the cover + wall of text on the back means it's going straight to "friends can borrow these" shelf.

Not sure what you have against this steelbook or movie but you clearly have some kind of animosity towards it from what im reading. I think you are off point with a lot of your post. I know its your opinion but..

I agree the G1 steel had better art but that art was used for the lenticular cover. And eventhough this art was used on regular amaray releases it is still very good so no need whipping up some garbage in photoshop as Meno stated above.

Secondly, it is expensive. $50.00 for a movie that is going for $10.00 in the bargain bins now means they are making $40 profit on the SteelBook. This movie came out four years ago! What else came out four years ago?

Its costs that much because its a premium finish (the highest quality finish steel can get paint wise), decorated and premium slips, artcards, numbered card. Plus its a collectors item and not a plastic amaray case that a major retailer can throw in a bargain bin:hilarious:.

And yes. If Despicable ME, Kick Ass, The Town were produced with the amount of quality this was, I would drop $50 no prob because I really want quality steels from those movies. Easy A well.... lol

Cant speak much on this because I dont know how widespread it is but my copy is flawless. And if this counts as one of the reasons it shouldnt be steelbook of the year then your #1 pick of WIR Blufans is out of running because it had a seemingly much worse problem with quality control with numerous members getting scratched up copies.

I have both WIR blufans and Tangled. While I do love WIR, the art on Tanged is much nicer overall (front, back, inside) IMO. And the quality in finish is exact same quality as if they used the same machinery to produce the steels. Kimchi and BF pretty much produce steels of the same quality.

I won't criticize either without sticking out my own neck. My nominations for SB of the Year would be:
WRECK-IT-RALPH (Blufans)
OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (Blufans)
ONLY GOD FORGIVES (Zavvi)
THE PRESTIGE (Zavvi)

just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.

My vote on steel of the year would be:

1) Oz The Great and Powerful (Blufans)
2) Tangled (Kimchi)
3) WIR (Blufans)
4) Aladdin (Zavvi)

Anything Drew Struzan painted should be on the front of a steelbook IMHO. The man is a legend and a total genius with a paint brush.

No argument there. I was chatting with one of Struzan's students and it is pretty amazing if you see the work he has done after learning from Drew.

Drew Struzan is amazing but I really don't like the poster he did for Pan's Labnyrinth that was used for the steelbook. Maybe his original looked different but what's on that steelbook isn't good imo.

But apart from that one off I agree that Struazan's artwork should be used on more steelbooks.

Why has monsters inc sold out months ago but this is still in stock when frankly, the films both appeal to a large audience and this is a much nicer steelbook

I don't know this makes sense, but I didn't know this movie existed until a friend recommended this. I don't recall the movie being advertised that much as opposed to Monsters Inc. Maybe that could be the reason? Maybe it's bull, can't access IMDb to compare the world wide gross for both movies for some reason...

I can't believe this is still in stock? maybe the print run is unlimited lol

but if you compare this and monster.. this film is much better than the monster:D
