It's not a reissue of a previous back catalog discs repackaged in a Steelbook or Amaray etc

You not going to get £15.00 pre order price point for new 4K releases in UK
4K new releases prices start from £20 for Amaray and from £25 for 4K Steelbooks
Some Film Studio releases have higher price points on new releases

The Collectors Edition has also booklet and script and poster and artcards and a slipbox

HMV have same collectors edition as Zavvi but that has a Amaray case instead of a Steelbook

Standard price in UK for new release 4K steelbook has been £25 for ages nothing has changed

What has changed recently is Universal spitting the print run between Standard Steelbook and Collectors Editions and also doing Amaray Collector's editions
The Amaray Collectors editions are limited to 1,000 to 1,500

Yes the price of the collectors editions are not cheap but you have a choice of getting one of the other cheaper standard editions
There is no change in UK pricing for the new release 4K standard steelbook or 4k standard Amaray releases

I’m not even interested in this (just checked the thread to look at the picture and then Paul’s post made me laugh) but we're always too high.

This could be half the price and they would still make money.

Also our price drops have got worse over here lately too. Look at the sales you were having the past few sundays with all those $9.99 Disney steels. Great bargains.

Because mugs keep paying that price so they get away with it. People need to stop ordering these and wait for better price drops.

The thing is, these will be sitting on shelves for months. So many people out of work right now and not knowing if they'll ever have a job to go back to. These prices will have to drop eventually. Especially as more and more people are choosing streaming now over physical media.

Retailers are chancing their arm and banking on the few die hard collectors paying these prices on release.

So with all the talk about prices I decided to look up the price of the 4K amaray here in Canada.
It's $21.99...Canadian. The Canadian price through Zavvi is a whopping $53.99!

That's the price for recent new release steelbooks like Birds of Prey Bloodshot and Sonic The Hedgehog.
So yes the UK is really getting hosed here.

I could buy the 4K amaray in Canada and ship it to the UK for a total of $36 Canadian. That's just crazy.

So the 4K steelbook is £25 at Amazon but Zavvi is charging £29.99 for the 4K amaray?

Strange that Canada isn't getting this steelbook since we are getting Braveheart, Gladiator and Top Gun which are all Paramount titles.

UK distributors have a dealer prices it's this that decides what the retail price is and why you see most UK retailers with similar retail prices on new releases with slight differences if any

Some retailers like Amazon and HMV have a decent file discount with distributors and often use this to drop prices on pre orders and after release date
Without that file discount they could not drop the prices unless they wanted to sell at less proffit or at a loss

Profit margin on new releases is not as big as some people think it is especially for smaller retailers who have low or no file discount with a distributor

We all like decent price drops but that's a retailer trying to get rid of unsold stock most times
The big price drops the retailer most time is lucky to break even or sells at a loss

We gain from the price drop even if a retailer is selling at a loss

Retailers like if possible sell at full price and that does happen wiith high demand releases

For prices on new releases to be lower in the UK it's the distributor that needs to have lower dealer prices so retailers can sell new releases at lower prices

The Marvel steelbooks in the U.S. all have massive price drops because they were all way overstocked and now they are trying to get rid of them. Big difference compared to Canada where they sell whatever limited quantity they get long before release day.
