I would rather have 1080i and a uncropped picture rather than 1080p and a cropped picture

Only certain scenes (not the whole movie) is cropped if I remember correctly.

I'd definitely have that over terrible picture quality for the whole duration of the movie. Especially when you don't even notice the cropping unless you're looking for it.

Agreed, me preferring it is just me, i still think it looks good in 1080i.

Its a very nice looking steelbook and I'm just glad that mine was in perfect condition

My guess is these were damaged returns put back on sale, I read a lot of quality complaints so you were probably better off missing it.

If it is sealed you will never known unless you open it. There are very few (if any) perfect condition copies of this steelbook.
