It is really odd that I live half way across the world and I have better luck getting my Steelbooks from Zavvi intact than many of you poor UK blokes do.

knock wood.

I used to be like that, never had a damaged steel arrive from them until i got Clash of the titans with a massive scratch on the back and no disc inside and The crow with the back scratched to hell and fast and furious 5 with no disc inside lol

Your luck will run out with them one day, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when unfortunatley. :(

I think it's the same with most retailers though isn't it?

There's always the risk of damage in transit when something is posted to you. Add to that issues such as spine slashes (from both the retailer and distribution end), damage under J-cards from manufacturing (Evil Dead springs to mind) and general scuffing from wherever.

It also depends on your own personal tolerance in regards to what is acceptable and what isn't. For some, the slightest hairline 1mm scratch is the end of the world, for others a small ding on the back is neither here nor there. Obviously, we'd all love to receive a mint copy of our favourite films, but sadly, as with many mass-produced retail products not every one will be 100% up to scratch (excuse the term).

Just pick up 2 'identical' Star Wars figures, or 2 'identical' Bowen statues. No 2 are the same. Unfortunately, while the steelbook itself is often why we buy a certain title, they are just the box to put the disc in to most people. If I was to show some of the damage to my closest friends, they'd understand why I might be bothered (and to be fair, I'm not one that expects perfection), but personally they just roll their eyes and think 'whatever'.

My copy of The Crow has a very small (and I do mean very small) ding on the front. You really have to study it to find it, and hold it so the light reflects on the ding for it to show. Does that count as damage? To some I'm sure it does. While I guess I'd rather it wasn't there, it's slightly inevitable with anything made from such thin metal really.

Oh I have been unlucky my share of times but I never felt it was Zavvi's fault.

My last experience with their customer service was about five months ago and they sent me out a replacement for this mess straight away...

They did not even ask for the damaged item to be returned.

wow... @Geek Tragedy how come I never had that service from Zavvi? After I sent them those horrid photos they just kindly offered me 10% refund LOL... and of all my damaged steekbooks they never sent me replacements... the most that I got is 20% refund which is ridiculous compare to 10% from what they offer for my "car-ran-over-the-crow"... LOL

You got to be persistent and refuse the weak refunds as you are still essentialy paying for unwanted damaged item. Its either full refund or replacement. Ive always got a replacement sent out. It may not be their direct fault that its damaged but the thin boxes and useless sliver of foam cant be expected to take impact and protect the steel especially when shipping overseas. They should understand this by now but refuse to get slightly bigger boxes and thicker foam. It may take a bit of back and forth covos but let them know you arent accepting such a small compensation.

I received 2 copies that were badly dented to pretty much smashed. The scary thing is that the boxes were in perfect shape. Normally they are totally destroyed when I get a damaged steel. Therefore, I honestly think they shipped my 2 copies badly dented. Absolutely disgraceful!

The logical explanation for this is that a shipment to Zavvi got severely damaged and Zavvi chose to send many obviously damaged copies to customers.

I have never heard of any other Zavvi Steelbook release having so many copies received badly damaged....

What's your relationship with your postman like? Ever piss him off? Could he have removed them, damaged them and boxed them back up??? :D

i ordered two copies from which until now only one showed up and it came with several scratches on the front and back so i sent zavvi a message to ask if i could ship the item back , they replied within 24 hours and told me to get a shipping quote first which i did and after sending them the shipping cost they told me there was no need to return the item and i received a full refund

hopefully my second copy will turn up soon and mint :ohno:

I was very happy to get 2 copies, one for me and one for another collector, BUT! The packaging didn't show any signs of damage. One was dented on the left and right side on the front cover and the other was scratched to hell on the front and back cover. No replacement offered but was given a refund. :arghh: :( :grumpy:

This is a nice looking steel indeed and love the movie as well. However, the UK disc from Entertainment in Video is only 1080i and I was not really satisfied with the PQ.

Glad I found a regular blu-ray at my local HMV store on sale for C$5 produced by Alliance Films at 1080p and switched the discs ;)

I would rather have 1080i and a uncropped picture rather than 1080p and a cropped picture :)

@garilar My steels back has light scratches all over it too, i emailed zavvi 4 times and recieved no reply so i just made piece with it.

i emailed them re the scratches, they got back to me asking for photos of the damaged, which i gladly supplied, last emailed i got from them was asking me would i accept a 15% refund due to the damaged steely. i agreed to the refund. My experience with delivered steelbooks from zavvi has been rock solid, so far........
