Well we keep finding more and more fans, garlad you are just adding to the group. So let's keep all football related content in this thread since we are small group of fans who actually follow we can't make threads that only one person will reply. Anyways Scott, Baliey, Dattebayo and myself all follow pro football. The same people in addition to Bravesfan and jrocca have/play FIFA09.

To answer your question from the other thread, yes I do follow. I don't have a particular team in the EPL, but I enjoy watching the games. However I am liking Liverpool this year, I think if they don't win it now they won't in a long time! they are finally reaching that talent threshold and it's their time! Torres is in a fantastic level and Benitez is having no issues with players so what else can I say? ManU is finally losing grip. Chelsea is a mess I think, they keep buying players and more players that bring a huge ego and that's why the teams is so inconsistent! the egos that team has will not let them find their rhythm. Arsenal has a relatively young team that will only get better and I keep reading everywhere that they might lose Fabregas this next summer....

I used to watch plenty of the Spanish league, but I lost GolTV which used to show all the games every weekend. Fox Sports channel now shows the EPL and the Serie A Italian league which is not bad, but not the same.

Physicists have explained one of football's most spectacular goals.

Brazilian Roberto Carlos's 1997 free-kick against France curved so sharply that it left goalkeeper Fabian Barthez standing still and looking puzzled.

Now, a study published in the New Journal of Physics suggests that the long-held assumption that the goal was a fantastic fluke is wrong.

A French team of scientists discovered the trajectory of the goal and developed an equation to describe it.

They say it could be repeated if a ball was kicked hard enough, with the appropriate spin and, crucially, the kick was taken sufficiently far from goal.

Roberto Carlos scored his wonder goal during the inaugural match of the Tournoi de France, a friendly international football tournament that was held in France ahead of the 1998 World Cup.

Follow the curve
Many pundits referred to it as "the goal that defied physics", but the new paper outlines the equation that describes its trajectory exactly.

"We have shown that the path of a sphere when it spins is a spiral," lead researcher Christophe Clanet from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris told BBC News.

Dr Clanet described this path as a "snail-shell shaped trajectory", with the curvature increasing as the ball travels.

Because Roberto Carlos was 35m (115ft) from the goal when he kicked the ball, more of this spiral trajectory was visible. So the apparently physics-defying sharp turn of the ball was actually following a naturally tightening curve.

Dr Clanet and his colleague David Quere were studying the trajectory of bullets when they made their sporting discovery.

They used water and plastic balls with the same density as water to "simplify the problem".

Long flight

This approach eliminated the effects of air turbulence and of gravity and revealed the pure physical path of a spinning sphere.

"On a real soccer pitch, we will see something close to this ideal spiral, but gravity will modify it," explained Dr Clanet.

"But if you shoot strongly enough, like Carlos did, you can minimise the effect of gravity."

The crucial aspect of the wonder strike, according to the scientists, was the distance the ball had to travel to beat Fabian Barthez.

"If this distance is small," said Dr Clanet, "you only see the first part of the curve.

"But if that distance is large - like with Carlos's kick - you see the curve increase. So you see the whole of the trajectory."

Check out the video within the article.

So easy to "explain" theory, yet in 13 years there hasn't be another goal like it. They can continue to "think" they've solved the riddle because I don't believe what they just said lol

A few months later, we won the World Cup !
Thanks to Heaven, R.Carlos hadn't scored such a fantastic goal during the World Cup Final :p but Zizou did ! :D:D:D

And now, we loose against Belarus at home, our players refuse to train, and the whole world is laughing at us :(

Time goes by, and things are changing :(

Wait, they lost against Belarus at home? This is for the Eurocup qualifiers right? that was a bit unexpected.

Yes... and yes... and yes :(

Not so unexpected, Horhay.
France was the wickest team of the last World Cup. We are a very small team now. No matter who is our manager, we only know how to loose !

I never expected that after Zizou retired France would suffer such bad times in football. How many games did Toulalan and Ribery get suspended for? What the hell is up with Karim Benzema? Dude went to Madrid and fell in mediocrity.

Is Chamakh part of the national squad now?

p.s Zizou was my childhood hero! was a master with the ball. Was a pleasure to be able to witness the magic!

Zizou is my hero too... he is a national hero !
With him, our national team was feeling invincible, we were able to beat any other team. But it belongs to the past, now...

Toulalan had been banned for 2 matchs, he can plays now (but we don't know if Laurent Blanc would take him again...). Ribery had taken 5 matchs, 3 remaining... Anelka is "game over"...

We had the best team of the World Cup 2006, and it is a nightmare since Zizou has gone after his headkick on Materazzi...

Benzema is not as good as everybody thought. Madrid is not Lyon... Everybody was playing for him when he was Lyonnais, whereas he is a very very little star at Madrid ;)

Chamakh plays for Morocco ;)

Of course it's a shame ! Everybody in France is ashamed of our national team.
We will play tomorrow vs Bosnia, and I'm pretty sure we will loose again ! :(

I just hope that Laurent Blanc will have the "corones" to throw away Ribery, Evra, Abidal, Anelka, and all others trouble-makers, and build a new team around a few young players as Lloris, Diaby, Nasri, Benzema, Nzogbia, Gourcuff, Gameiro...

We don't want to live an other World Cup 2010 again... but next Euro is going to be the same ! :(

Arsene Wenger has always taken french players. This year again, he took Koscielny, Squillacci and Chamakh (french by adoption ;))
A few years ago, Arsenal, with his french squad, was the best team in the world, when they won the championship without loosing a single match !!! Henry, Pires, Wiltord :) What a nice team !

When I was young, Arsenal was a terrible team. I remember Tony Adams, David Seaman, Nigel Winterburn, Paul Dixon, Ray Parlour and Ian Wright.... all great players !!!

Arsenal is our english favourite team :scat:

Arsenal still are a terrible team :p and regarding France, yes it is a shame they have some great players, young and old, its to bad most of there good players let there egos get in the way and for them to hardly ever play as a team anymore
