I scrolled all pages back. Most of the posts are about how many left in stock. 3 years later its still in stock. Can someone explain me the hype about this?
It can't be the movie since it's the typical US remake nobody needed after the awesome Swedish trilogy. Is it an nostalgic thing? Like the time where not so much was released!?
I like the asian slip but that can't be the reason that some ninjas paid like 70 pounds for this before ?!!

Poor remake of the awesome original which deserves a steelbook so much more. I am totally disinterested in this even if it is reduced to 1000 yen.

Why can't it be the movie? Since your opnion is that the original is better? Sorry, but that kind of attitude annoys me. Anyway...

But here's my opnion of why this was so popular. Firstly, it was a well recieve movie and highly atticipated by many. Wether or not it's better than the original is all subjective. I haven't seen the original yet (I do own it though) but I really like this remake.
Secondly, at one point in time steelbooks from asia was highly sought after and very often went for high prices soon after it went OOS. And with this particular release there was a booklet and a fullslip included as well. Thus making it something that's not your everyday thing. These days with Plain Archive we see this type of thing more often but back then it was an extremely rare occurence.
And from what I can remember the interest for this sky rocketed after release when the in hand pics came out. And for some reason unknown to me there was a thing about stock countdowns for some releases. This being one of them.

I've stopped collecting steelbooks almost entirely (Plain Archive and certain others I do buy but they must have a slipcover) and I'm getting rid of most of my collection but I have no intention of selling my The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo JP. It's still one of my favorites.
But then again I love the movie and am a huge David Fincher fan.

No. It can clearly not be the movie, not because I don't like it, because the movie can't be the reason someone paid 70 Pounds for it. The reason must be the finish, the slipcover, the J-card, goodies I don't know.
Thats why I asked whats special about this release It can't be the movie. And I put my personal taste in it. Sorry to offend you, I didn't wanted to speak for everybody.

Thank you so much. That's all I wanted to know. So I was on the right path when I said that it's an "nostalgic" thing. A release of 2012 with Slip and Booklet was something more rare.

And please try to watch the original trilogy, it's awesome. Maybe you like it also!

The Fincher is so much better than the Swedish movie(s)...

The Swedish versions are utter garbage! As a huge fan of the books I was gutted at how bad Salander was portrayed in those films, a one note bratish character. I despise those versions. Mara nailed it and IS Lisbeth. Finchers version is far superior in every single way.

I see your avatar, I don't want to get into trouble but you called the trilogy utter garbage so I must say something ;)
For me both the swedish trilogy and the american remake don't do any justice to the books first and foremost. But for me Noomi Rapace is irreplaceable as Lisbeth. Far more authentic. More edgy. More harsher. I cared for her the whole trilogy but I didn't cared for Rooneys Lisbeth. She was so distant to me. And for me, the swedish trilogy captured the relationships far better than the american remake. The american remake was good but it was technically good, beautiful shot, nice mood like you would expect from Fincher, nice music, awesome intro etc but thats not enough for me. But to be fair the swedish trilogy was first made for television, not cinema. Its my opinion, I respect yours totally, just wanted to tell my view, dont be to hard with me buddy :shy::whistle::thumbs::bag:

Well, sure it won't be just the movie but the movie can certainly play a part. That's what I meant. And also you didn't really say it like that. You gave the remake some **** and said it couldn't be because of that.

I wasn't offended but I do get slightly annoyed with that type of attitude and seeing as I wanted to respond to your post anyway I just couldn't help myself. But it's not a biggie. :)

I wouldn't say it nostalgic. It's beause it's got a full slip for this specific movie that no other release does and it includes a booklet which no other edition for this movie does.
That's not nostalgia. But if you need to classify it as that then go on. It's your life and it won't affect me the slightest.

Like I said I do own the original trilogy and intend to watch them. I haven't done so yet because I can't make up my mind wether I want to wait for all 3 movies to be remade (hopefully by Fincher and with Craig and Mara in them) or if I just want to see the originals and ruin the potential surprises if the others are remade as well.

Just a suggestion, @dirtyoak you might not want to want. It doesn't sound like 2 and 3 have much of a chance of being made in the US. If you're willing to, read the books. Otherwise just watch the Swedish versions and, if Fincher makes the other 2, enjoy comparing/contrasting.

For my money, the US release is an incredible film and I've really heard nothing but bad things about 2 and 3 of the Swedish trilogy (changes from the book, things being revealed much sooner than they should be, etc.). This Japanese steelbook is incredible and well worth the price it's at now. It oozes quality and it outshines several of my Kimchi and Blufans releases.
