Pre-ordered this with Life of Pi. I just hope it's glossy. The last few matte finishes from the UK that I have received have been low quality.

Will this include the HFR version? Or an option to watch it in HFR? For that matter, will any of the Hobbit Blu-rays?

Don't think so, at least by now. BDs would not support HFR at 1080 due to technical limitations. BD is intended to show 29,97 and 25 fps for 1080i and 23,976 (or 24) for 1080p.

I think if they'd to do that, it'd be necessary to release it in 720, and apply a pulldown, but that would affect quality for sure.

Let's wait a little bit more and see if new BD models will show up with support to HFR.

I'm holding out for the extended cut later in the year. I hate buying the shorter cuts when you know the others are on the way. It'll be a bit of a wait, but worth it.
I think I'd prefer some other kind of special packaging for this and the two eventual sequels rather than Steelbook. I loved the Dvd book like editions I bought from the US years ago. So much nicer than the UK equivalent, as they had a nice leather book type texture to them.

If you bought the extended editions that came in the sets, FotR with bookends, TTT with Gollum and RotK with city they were thicker and more sturdy than the non-set versions.

I'm not too worried about the extended cuts at the moment, so I'll just go for the steelbook. If I really feel I must have the longer version then I'll get that when the price decreases.

Yeh i don't think the extended versions will be steelbooks at least not in uk can picture them being more like the DVD's, so i'm buying. But now like the 3d cover at zavvi.

Damn it.££££

There is no guarantee an extended edition will be a better movie. Don't get me wrong I loved this film, but I'm not sure it could benefit from being any longer, especially as we have another two movies to go.

Hope people are ordering this because they like the cover (and the film obviously) and not just because its a steelbook because I personally think its a poor image, just my opinion though, hope it's a placeholder but seeing as its the same design that's showing up in other countries it's looking unlikely. Don't get me wrong I liked Martin Freeman as Bilbo I just think he has an in interesting face and don't want to see it on a steelbook, I know he is the title character but Id much rather have the promo image of the dwarfes or Gandalf on the front. Might just end up getting the French 3D version but it's too expensive IMO!!

I would say pretty much zero chance. If it did include a 3D disc it would probably say so on the listing and on the Steelbook itself.
