I just sent Zavvi a message, I would say I can't wait to see what they say but I'll probably just get an automated message about pricing :hilarious:
Hi there, I notice that Zavvi are running a promotion that allows you to purchase The Jungle Book for £9.99 when pre-ordering Toy Story. As you can see I have pre-ordered Toy Story but I already purchased The Jungle Book back in August (order number ........) for a much higher price of £22.99. Could you please refund the £13.00 difference? I am a very loyal Zavvi customer and think it is only fair that my loyalty is rewarded.

Thanks

hey guys, I understand the disappointment in the price drop, as a collector I ordered two copies at the regular price for myself and my brother, so we do feel the sting.

however, what I want to mention. yes, a 10K run is a bit higher, but you guys gotta remember what the runs for some of the early future shop paramount steelbooks were.

if you remember transformers: revenge of the fallen, they were everywhere and took a long time to sell out, the print run 10K as well. this was hugely sought after for a long time.

best buy disney steels, the original wave, had HUGE print runs and they are some of the most sought after steels currently.

long term, it's better for us collectors to have a SOLD out collectible, as Wreck stated, and history has shown, for a quality produced steelbook, it will bounce back after a while.

just my thoughts as I've been collecting since 2008, and seen a lot of things come and go.

hope that helps some of you new collectors and other members out there gain some perspective.

thanks as always for being members here, but let's not get too off track on this thread, feel free to visit the retailer thread to talk about retail prices and practices.

Hi andy, thanks for that, I didn't originally order at £22.99, but I am glad I held out, it would be rude not to at £9.99, but imagine some people who bought as gifts ie 2 or 3 like yourself, they would be £26 - £39 out of pocket...

Ah well that's the risk with pre-orders that can affect everyone
yes I paid full price for this when it was first announced

Problem was we all thought The Jungle Book would sell out and The Little Mermaid

Zavvi They saw the quick sales for Aladdin and thought we will agree to take much bigger qty with both

We as customers all assumed the limited run was as usual 5000
and got our pre orders in

If we had known what the limited amount was I bet lot of us would have waited for a price drop

I expect zavvi will from now on not take any more risks and only agree to limited runs 3000-5000 with Disney Steelbooks depending on the release

Jungle Book/Little Mermaid are both classics and I'm surprised they did not sell out
but if zavvi did go with 10000 or more then that's just totally there fault as in no way would 10000 sell out at full price

If zavvi are not careful we end up loosing out as customers as they could get badly effected by over buying and then we don't see any more steelbook releases

Solution for Zavvi
1) Keep exclusive Limited releases to max 4000-5000 on big releases
2) Keep exclusive Limited releases to max 2000-3000 on lesser releases

3) Steelbooks
They don't have to be exclusive releases be much better business on risky releases to say no to studios but say yes you be interested in the release without having to agree to set qty

It then becomes a limited release available for all retailers to sell

If zavvi not careful they might end up like play.com

Amazon and others are more careful when they agree to a exclusive

Anyone done this yet ? Do they take the Toy Story payment now as well, or just the 9.99 ?

My JB copy is totally misaligned on the embossing, so another version for a tenner is great for me

I was so focused on getting a spine slash free copy first, second & third time around, I never noticed the misaligned embossing on the copy I finally ended up keeping. It's bothered me ever since I noticed it.

So I've ordered another at 9.99 and we'll see what happens. 4th time lucky. :D

Just to add to that, Remember Iron Man 2, target exclusive? limited print run of 30,000! (printed right on the steel, no guessing). I wonder how that steel is doing? This steel WILL go up in value over time, its Disney. I don't ask myself if there are at least 10,000, or even 50,000 Disney fans out there. I'm pretty sure its in the countless millions. I don't waste any brain energy wondering if it will go up. It will, bet on it.

Yes, this was a Metalpak, which initially flooded Ebay at slightly inflated prices. Then went back up. Sometimes these things are hit or miss, but the major franchises usually find a niche in the marketplace if the item is limited, depending on the title of course.

I hope everyone that wishes to catch this Jungle Book/Toy Story promotion is able to!
