Actually Paul that 's only partly correct.

The current Warner Pre-orders have the print run split as follows:

UK/Germany

The Mask
A.I
Poltergeist
Boogie Nights

UK/France/Germany

2001 A Space Odyssey
Unforgiven
Sweeney Todd

UK/France

Gran Torino

Plus, for now> Mystic River is released in France soon, but expect UK and probably Germany soon.
I know that's why these batch of steelbooks have noting to do with Zavvi in terms of Artwork and Finish

I don't see anyone say in the German and French threads say why amazon decide that Artwork or Finish
Zavvi only have with a very small number of steelbooks were they had any part in deciding the artwork or finish with a film studio and even when they did have an input were they suggested artwork most times it was what the studio decided and only a handful was the artwork and finish influenced by Zavvi that the studio agreed with
Zavvi don't do any actual artwork for any steelbooks that's done by the film studio and on the few occasions were zavvi suggested artwork that artwork they did not design its still done by the film studio people

I also expect we will see another batch of Warner titles from the back catalogue have Steelbooks be announced in coming months

Well Paul, as you know, this topic been stated and discussed ad infinitum; but people STILL insist on saying it's all Zavvi's fault.
As I said only the other day - there's plenty that Zavvi are responsible for, and which we can rightly blame them: Saturation of the market, Poor Pricing Policies, Lousy Customer Service, take your pick.

*spoilers*

i dont know if all his problems were to do with how he saw himself, although that had a lot to do with it.

but the film depicts in many scenes that stanley is viewed as nothing- his landord doesnt respect him,the people who fix his car treat him with contempt, his boss at work speaks to him like dirt etc so he is subject to all these things which indicate he is seen to be a loser. its not just a problem with how he sees himself.

when he tries to enter the exclusive club with his friend, he is refused entry and literally thrown to the curb, so its not just people who know him who have a low view of him, he is generally treated like a loser by everyone from all walks of life.

of course we all know he is a decent guy, but the film portrays him as a loser, which as i said in my previous reply is far fetched considering he has job security (a respectable one too), a roof over his head, a car and pet . in any case, the moral of the story seems to be: without a woman/love interest, you are a loser. since in the end that is the only thing he gained. he didnt go after the bad guys because they were going to rob banks, blow up clubs and take over the city, he was only interested in the girl.

i guess its not a film with a deep message, its just a bit of fun, but yeh...

This is Hollywood screenwriter logic. If you're not pulling Cameron Diaz, you're a loser.

Your summary has pretty accurately explained why some of these simplistic films I liked when I was younger, like the Mask, I have absolutely no time for them now.

Personally, I'd rather NOT pull Cameron Diaz - far better girls out there for an enterprising chap - Oops, there goes the script :)

Its just a comedy guys. A fun movie. If its Gandhi you wanna watch, then switch to that. The story is about a guy who is an introvert who lacks the strength to stand up for himself. Choosing to hide behind the mask is the easy way out because he does what he wants with seemingly little consequence to his real life.

It was also Jim Carrey and what he does best. They never made him a millionaire or a homeless guy. They made him an average Joe in comparson to the average American population. It wasnt mesnt to imply that he was ungrateful. It was just mean't to imply that he was lonely.

I got my Mask steelbook today and I like it. The front cover is quite nice. We watched The Mask just a month ago, so not in a horry to see it now.

Warner are the undisputed kings of re-release and poor finish followed by Fox.
Well, WB almost got me with this one, after the previous Warner wave, ie V for Vendetta, Mars Attacks ! and Beetlejuice, I thought this latest wave would turn out in the same way ie with nice gloss finish, but Nooo....., luckily, I managed to skip all but the 2001 (cos I wanted the film).

But this is lazy stuff from Warner, fool me once.......

Surprised this is still available, given the limited print run. Picked it up last week and really enjoyed watching it again. It hasn't aged that badly at all, probably due to the fairly limited use of CGI. The Steelbook quality is pretty terrible however, a full gloss finish would have made this look truly spectacular.
