A gravity fed spray gun

Then I used some accelerator and clear coat which I use when I spray cars also added is a slight but if thinners I think it's 2 to 1

The steels are wiped over with cleaners I get rid of grime and oil that fingers can lea e and any oils

Then I spray it in a booth which is heated and has ventilation AND IS HEATED KNOWN AS AN OVEN
Basically it what I use to spray car bits

Then spray and leave them to harden at least a day and this will be hard enough to polish to

OH I FORGOTTO ADD A PICTURE OF THE HARDENER AND THE FACT I GET ALL KITTED UP LIKE WALTER WHITE FROM BREAKING BAD ....

WELL A BREATHING MASK AND OVERALLS AS THIS STUFF ISNT GOOD FOR BREATHING IN A CONFINED SPACE

I love that Wall-E steelbook, where'd you get it? Are you in the process of flipping the spine?

all home made was having terrible trouble with sizing etc as you can see the edge near the spine so it was a demo run gonna do it again ive even wrapped the image around teh folds of the steel

I'm pissed off because I ruined Wreck it Ralph and 28 Weeks later.

My spray can was low and shot bubbles all over WIR. 28 Weeks later was full of little dust bits...

They had so much potential...

thats why i have a booth to do it in lol and now ive finished my car should be able to get the man of steel finished
they did go back to gloss for a fair few releases but the last couple ive had have been matte again

Hi guys, I'm looking to do some custom glossing (nothing too ambitious, just straightforward glossing from a can), and I was wondering if there's any reason why either of these won't do a decent job of glossing some of my matte steels. I know some of you do use simple spray can glossing, so an expert opinion would be great:

Simoniz Clear Lacquer Spray Paint

Chestnut AGL400 Acrylic Gloss Lacquer
Which one did you decide on getting in the end? Or did you get something else? Did they work well?

Is this what you still use? What is your steel-glossing process if you don't mind me asking?

I still use that exact spray acrylic. DO NOT use the new packaging that Walmart offers, which is called ColorMAXX. Krylon says that it is the same product, but it is NOT. It is much flatter and not very good. Unfortunately the only place I can get it now is Amazon.

My process is very unsophisticated: I take out the discs and inserts, then I lay it flat on a stand in my garage. I make sure the garage door has been closed for a while so that there is no dust or debris floating around in the air, then I make sure the steelbook is lint and dust free with a microfiber cloth. Then I spray the steelbook with back and forth swipes about 8-10" from the steel. I start on one end and work my way across, then I turn around and spray side to side covering the steelbook with a second coat. Its important not to stop and linger on any one spot or the spray might pool and collect, causing an uneven coat. I try not to use a can if its less than 25% full because it won't spray as consistently. I also keep the can inside the house because if it gets too cold you will get poor results. I will try to post a video of my process when I gloss my Captain America 2 Blufans.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some shipped to the UK. The steelbooks you have glossed look very good and it seems like a simple technique (not saying it'll be easy, but at least it's just one can and that's it!)

Ultron, please don't do a blufans steelbook until you are good at it. Practice on some cheapo steelbooks before trying anything valuable. It's not extremely difficult to do, but I messed up quite a few in the beginning.

And to answer your other question, once I sprayed it, I would stick it in a spare microwave that I have in my garage. There it will dry without being vulnerable to dust particles floating in the air. Obviously the microwave is unplugged.

Haha don't worry, I have a few crappy steelbooks to try it out on first! And if I am no good at it there's no way I'll risk the Wall-E one... I might send it off to get it done.

Ok, thanks. Just one coat each way should be enough?
