1. Matt and some other people already saw
2. **** that member who made the threat
3. Dude should be banned for awhile
Thanks. We're aware and it's been brought to the staffs attention who will ultimately make the call as to what action to take next. The member in question did apologise tbf, but obviously Matt still isn't best pleased by what was said, which is understandable and we can only apologise.

Lesson to be learned here is that there are REAL people behind the making of steelbooks etc, a lot of whom obviously read the comments you make. So it's probably worth mentioning that if you don't have anything nice or helpful to say, then it may not be worth saying at all. As a designer myself, I'm all for constructive criticism... so if you do dislike something, then at least try to politely mention why exactly you don't like it and/or make suggestions as to how you think it could be improved, that way they're more likely to take the feedback on board and actually work towards making changes.

I respect you a lot @Noodles and obviously agree that threats (even in jest which clearly this was) is not a good idea but the thought of muzzling our views in a forum just because an artist may be upset is not going to fly.

His art upsets me.
If he is upset by my criticism then so be it. Don't care. All part of the game.
Take the praise and criticism that comes your way. We do that in all walks of life.

you are free to express your viewpoint of not liking an artists art, respectfully of course but joking or not you cannot threaten harm against anyone. That will not be tolerated. If you want to go back to talking about the steelbook feel free but the discussion around and threats are over.

I clearly said that that I agreed that we shouldn't be making threats
i disagreed with the rest of the post

Absolutely! Art is subjective and I'm not saying the "I don't like it" posts aren't allowed, but there a lot of comments I see on here nowadays that even bother me, because it's like... is this what we've come to as a community? Some folks go in way too hard on their hate for stuff as if it's personal to them or something, this thread being one of the worst examples I've seen as of late. All that said, everyone's welcome to disagree and say what they please at the end of the day... I can't stop you! But, IMHO some of y'all just need to calm it a bit is all lol.

While I don't want to get into the threatening thing going on, as that's not cool at all, I will say this, that art is pretty lacklustre

No offence to Matt, I know artists have their styles but all the art just looks samey to me, I can tell it's his straight away, it bummed me out when I saw he was doing the Avengers Infinity War / Endgame posters for cinemas when so many free posters for other films were fantastic (Logan for example) and even the big Infinity Saga box set.

Just my criticism anyway, hopefully he won't get offended, just a lot of editions / steelbooks are using his artwork now and when things look samey to me it's just another item I have to end up skipping and waiting for another re-release to get it right in the future.

I know it's the same old story but poster artwork is usually the best, I've seen people on here with their mock ups just using what they've found online and it's usually great.

Less is more I guess.

Totally agree.

This is why I prefer original poster designs to artworks. Because if you don't like the artist then it means missing out on a particular release (in this case a steelbook of one of my favourite movies) because of it.

Only real artist I like is Drew Struzan. Love his work....

Just popping in to remind members of HDN’s terms of service you all acknowledged by logging into the site at some point.

full details at the link below and also linked at the bottom of the forums for easy reference…

this excerpt applies here…

We may, but have no obligation to, monitor, edit or remove content that we determine in our sole discretion are unlawful, offensive, threatening, libelous, defamatory, pornographic, obscene or otherwise objectionable or violates any party’s intellectual property or these Terms of Service.

To be clear, HDN staff has a zero tolerance policy that will result in a forum ban for any language, statement or sentence that threatens bodily harm against another person.

I don't mind the art, and much prefer it to at least the front of the Best Buy edition which sloppily photoshops the shape-shifting art to be frozen in ice, and makes no sense whatsoever.

Will grab it as I already have the matching studiocanal ones, but clearly Matt's "campfire" poster is far superior and I do wish we got that instead.

At the same time so many great films will never get a steelbook, let alone winners like the Arrow, Mondo and Shout editions. It's ridiculous for people to get so hostile about it, especially while as long as Arrow still hold the rights we might see a 4K CE like True Romance show up after this one's print run, just like we got after the standard Universal steel.

Well this has ended up being an expensive release for me but as someone who is a bit obsessed with this film I had my wallet prepared. The art on this has kinda grown on me after seeing the back cover and I can appreciate that it matches the rest of the SC releases which I have in my collection so yeah, preordered this.. Along with the Amazon UK exclusive and the CE.

Now I'm just waiting on NECA to announce more 'Thing' figures to completely murder my funds lol

If this was drawn by Joe Bloggs instead of Matt Ferguson we would all be slating this artwork
You may not like Joe Bloggs' artworks but you can't deny his success

Personally not a fan of this type of art on small scale products such as steelbooks preferring instead a larger image of the main character/s but there's no getting away from the fact that the design matches previous perfectly ...

... and while I don't object to the art on the previous steels I feel that this particular image is ill-advised and evocative of the most horrific event of the 20th century.

Exactly this. We dont always get it right but we try really hard and these forums can be discouraging to say the least. Tell us what you like and what you don't like and we will try and improve. I know we wont please everyone every time but we will keep trying.

@johnnythm One thing to keep in mind, the pandemic has taken a toll on everyone's (or most folks') mental state of mind - whether they will admit it or not is a different matter - and therefore, a comment that used to be in the past "I don't like the art" or "pass" has mutated for some into these overly negative comments we've been seeing for the past year+.

So it's worth looking at it from that angle as well.

In all cases, as apsmith21 highlighted above, we have zero tolerance for the likes of what was posted yesterday and corrective action has been taken by banning the offending member for a week.

I love coming on here and seeing other member's opinions, mock ups etc, and having the odd moan about nothing, but at the end of the day............... it's a steelbook ..... some people just take it that one step too far! We're all different, that's what makes us human and unique, but sometimes you just have to take a step back and say, this is a film in a steel box. You either like it or you don't and express your opinions on why you like or dislike it and have a laugh at the same time. I personally really don't like this steel as it does not shout at me "this is the thing". If it didn't have the title at the bottom, for all I know, this could be "Escape from New York". Unless you have the others then it just doesn't scream to me "buy me". I've gone for the limited collectors edition instead. But thanks for all the opinions, mock ups etc... it's what makes this site unique. Long may it continue and hope you all stay safe during these strange times.
