They could do away with the DVD in these combo packs and it would not hurt my feelings...especially if it drops the price a few bucks. I won't miss the damn things.

i get ya,i won't miss them either. but have they ever increased a sb price cause it includes a dvd? not really.. zavvi exclusives are always 15 quid for an old title even if it includes a dvd or not

because 5 different steelbooks for one film would be stupid? it's simple, you either buy the one with all the features or don't. jeez i've seen people moan about lack of features, but wanting less? that's something new. hey buddy i don't have a use for uv code either, and 3D really isn't my thing. but im glad they are on there. it makes the steelbook superior

It wouldn't be 5 different steelbooks. The steelbook is the outer casing, not what's inside it. It would be variations of the same steelbook.
they have variations of amaray release,so what's the difference?
Even if it was (in your words) stupid - It would only be "stupid" for the manufacturer or the retailer.
How,exactly,is it ever "stupid" for the customer to have more choice?

well it kinda is different steelbooks if the content of what's inside is different? you saw how crazy people went for star trek into darkness. you must know how people go crazy for asian slips. don't say they the same product when there not

Ok,you think "more" customer "choice" is "not in the interest" of customers :hilarious:

it's just stupid. you just wan't 5 different steel books because you don't like content (3d,ultra violet) where i am sure the majority like that it includes 3D and an ultraviolet. the steelbook itself is enough choice,it includes 2d 3d and ultraviolet. if you want it buy it if you don't then whatever. no need for 5 different steelbooks for the sake of not wanting 3d or ultraviolet. i don't know where you got the crazy idea where people would like the exact same steelbook 5 times over.

Ok,let's try again.

You are welcome to pay 25 quid for your Thor 2 3D,2D,DVD,UV steelbook - I will be buying the exact same thing from the exact same retailer.

Unless you are actually Mr Zavvi and you want to go for maximum profits why would it personally bother you so much if Zavvi also had a 2D/DVD version for a few pounds less?

just seems pointless. it would never happen anyway,a steelbook with less content but the same design ? i mean i know we have seen extra's missing from discs (looking at you warner) but the same steelbook with different content inside just sounds like a massive waste of money, fair enough you might want it but i can guarantee more people will buy the 3D version and then 2D only will always be inferior. zavvi are already struggling with the amount of steelbooks they have still in stock, don't think they want any more

It's not in the interest of collectors or the collectors market. There should be 1 steelbook that includes everything, and then variations on the standard amaray releases. More than one Steel lessens the collectability factor as it's not then a one off limited product, just another variation on the standard releases. If they started offering variations many collectors would basically stop collecting as the exclusivity factor is gone.

Honestly mate,I really don't see what you mean by waste of money.
a 2D/DVD will cost less to produce than a 2D/3D/DVD/UV,and it will sell for less.
To my mind,it's no different to the assorted amaray releases of the same film.
The only difference would be the J card and to me that's the same as printing different amaray sleeves for the same film.
I have the Canadian Man of Steel steelbook,my son has the UK version. His has 3D printed on the steelbook and the extra disc, mine doesn't.
He is happy with his version, and I am happy with mine.

Maybe everyone doesnt just want what you want? Doesnt make them wrong but all i see are your responses calling everyones opinions stupid? You are not the steelbook police

I understand that, but it is a business, not a niche market. I picked up my first ever steelbook (Sherlock Holmes 2) at Futureshop because it was great to look at and just a tiny bit more expensive than the amaray edition on the same display.
My 2nd steelbook purchase was the Futureshop Watchmen for $10. I had no idea it was so rare and collectable, but I bought it because i liked the look of it.
I only buy the films I like,I don't collect for profit or to speculate what it
"may be worth" someday, the steelbook is an extra bonus for me.
The more steelbook customers there are,the more steelbooks will be produced.
that's my take on it all.

i accept people's opinion's doesnt mean im not allowed to think they are stupid. people can have the opinion's i love having debates on here i do it all the time, even with friends on here. im not personally attacking him and don't have anything against him? i just don't agree with his opinion and that's fine.

Can we please get the thread back on track. Please send PM's to each other if you want to have discussions outside of this release. People subscribe to the thread to see if there is any new news. Thanks

I myself really like the artwork. It would have been nice to have something close to the 1st one, but very few turn out that way.

I'm pretty much the same, I buy based on the fact I like the film. The fact some might end up super rare or expensive is irrelevant to me. That being said it is a collectable market. The reason early releases are so rare and valuable cash wise is because there wasn't a lot of them or a lot of collectors at that time. The more steelbooks produced the less collectable they become till there is a saturation point with too many available the market collapses. Just look at the amount of releases that Zavvi have put out, very few of them are actually going on to become seriously collectable because there are just too many and the quality often isn't as good as those early releases. Collectors are still looking out for those limited releases that are rarer like Kick Ass 2 which came with a fantastic finish and sold out almost immediately. It was a lower print run than first thought and Universal have confirmed they aren't printing anymore. That's generally what collectors want, paying more for a limited exclusive product. There are those that just like the art on the steels over standard releases by they aren't the ones that keep the market going. As soon as more and more are made the studios will invent a new limited edition as the whole point of Steelbooks to many is the better art/rare exclusivity factor. Once they become mass market with a choice of steels is when they become less collectable to a vast majority of those buying them.

Put simply we like the fact we can rub our mates noses in their crappy blue boxes, because our version is superior and rare lol

Anyway back to topic ..... this steelbook sucks! :hilarious:

I thought this was a discussion forum not a news forum?

That's the problem though. Some will buy any old crap just because it's Marvel. Disney will carry on producing these crappy Steelbooks if people keep buying them.

Because you believe that no longer buy their steelbook force them to change their editorial policy? At worst, they will stop the steelbook format and we complain of not having more.
If no title on the spine bothers you to the point of not buying it is your absolute right, as is my right to buy. You know how much a 3D blu-ray Amaray in France?
I can already hear those who do not buy and will seek, when it will be sold out on ebay not too expensive edition.
