you may want to quote the sales of goods act 1979-goods must be received fit for their intended purpose without damage or fault unless agreed with the buyer-if not item must be replaced to the satisfaction of the buying party or refunded-I voted with my feet & my wallet as zavvi are anything but hassle free...

Unfortunately they are technically not a UK company, since they are based in Guernsey the goods service act doesn't apply to them. Some companies like Amazon choose to follow it but legally stores based there are under no obligation legally to follow or abide by it :)

Slashed spines have never really bothered me... I didn't even notice some of my steels had them until folks kept complaining about it. I'd be more than happy with a £5 refund! Obviously you should just return it if you're still unhappy though.

Kind of wishing I'd kept my pre-order with the discount code applied now... I really enjoyed this film, and the steelbook doesn't look half bad in hand imo. Hurry up price drop!

Apparently,my Skyfall has spine slash, you need a microscope to even notice it though ;)

The Zavvi online company was officially registered in Guernsey before The Hut group took over! It depends on what the Hut group did with that! and what kinds of liabilities they signed over. Keeping the name registered there actually does mean they can get through many loops holes, including tax payments and it also means they don't need to follows certain goods laws.

Ah ok then The Hut Group have taken over fully! In which case half the crap Zavvi have pulled over the months that I've read on here means they can be screwed to the wall!

On a side note a website can tell you anything they want ;) doesn't mean it's enforceable. Amazon tell you the same thing, yet it's well known since they aren't registered in the UK that if you challenge them it will be in a Luxembourg court where your UK rights just went bye bye lol

Yes, Zavvi's Guernsey operation went into liquidation during the firm's original collapse and isn't part of the new set up. Zavvi are a UK company and 100% covered by the Sale of Goods Act. They have no legal right to decline a request for a return or refund against a defective item. The stalling/disincentive tactic of requesting photos of faulty items shouldn't make people think their statutory rights are compromised, because customers buying from online retailers have thorough and comprehensive protection under UK law.

Getting a bit off topic as this is the steekbook thread
Most business will chance there arm at avoiding having to abide by your
statutory rights
Lot of companies do it all the time but will always comply with your statutory rights if you if you look for it as they have to
If you receive any goods that are damaged your statutory rights are there to protect you if you need it enforced and it will be

I have had problems with Zavvi/Amazon/EBay before luckily not that often but because I Know my rights they always comply
If you get any damaged goods from any seller online your statutory rights are there to protect you

It should be educated in school as standard and tested that you know what your statutory rights are

In regards to the Thor 2 Dark World Steelbook
Spine slash is damaged goods by law
Its not meant to be damaged
Its up to the Customer if they want this corrected some customers might not mind a spine slash and that's there right as is the right of a customer who want to have it corrected

and back to the film, took a chance and ordered this even though i missed it at the movies, and must say it was pretty good, story had the right mix of humour and action and the 3d was very subtle not to overpowering, looking forward to Cap America - Winter Soldier which looks pretty good from the far to much information trailer that was on the Thor disc.

Has anyone had any issues with the 2D disc freezing?

Mine does at the 10 minute mark, it pixellates and freezes, but if I reverse back it then plays through okay. Is it likely to be a bad disc or is my player at fault (unfortunately I don't have access to any other Blu-ray players to test it on).

Thank you.

the Guernsey & Isle of Man loopholes were closed by the UK government-that's why Play.com no longer act as an online supplier but as a high end marketplace. The Zavvi website was originally owned by Virgin when they re-branded & the website operated out of Hammersmith-The Hut group purchased the name after the original Zavvi went under...

Nice to see other members are clued up over their statutory rights:D

---------- Post added at 10:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 PM ----------

ordered the Korean steel book-not giving Zavvi my money & the Kimichi slip looks gorgeous

The problem is they're getting complacent they've tapped into a market selling steelbooks & all they see are pound signs. They think we are stupid enough to accept partial refunds it's disgusting once they've got your money they don't care.

Maybe they think we are stupid or maybe it's just a quick and easy solution that sometimes works for both parties? :dunno:

Often the damage is not bad enough to justify the hassle of returning it for a refund/replacement in my experience. I have received slightly damaged Steelbooks in the past that I couldn't be bothered sending back or didn't want to send back because Zavvi had no stock remaining making a replacement impossible (a damaged copy is better than no copy). In those circumstances, a partial refund is ideal. If the damage is too severe, you simply contact Zavvi asking for a refund/replacement and they oblige. It's pretty simple stuff really.

Mine plays fine. I have had that problem with other discs before and it was dust on the lens.

If you are in the UK you have much more protection if you order it online or over the phone, we have 'The Distance Selling Regulations', this means you have 7 days cooling of period FROM RECEIPT of getting it to decide you want it.

This does have quite a few exceptions, at lot of consumables don't qualify and and if some firmas are based abroad they can tell you to get stuffed but it's a very useful and powerful law.

The link I've given is to the CAB which UK members will of heard of
