Steel looks decent but the slips are exactly what i expected and it does seem that they are just an extra layer of protection

Funny thing is for around this price a decent slip can be done.
Just look at the slip for the steel we aren't allowed to speak of and post pics of on this site. It's a stunning slip and was only a few quid more than this. It can defiantly be done for around this price

I buy these just for the steel and the slip is nothing more than cardboard protection. I don't have to put this in the SCF1 covers instead and also the slip doesn't fit inside. If you display them so the spine is facing the front it does look quite nice on the shelf. TBH I don't mind these cheap cardboards as it keeps the cost down lower. If I want the proper premium finish then that just adds more cost for old catalogue releases. I am sure Zavvi be releasing a lot more of these slips down the line so happy to spend affordable £16 with discount than the current prices of premium imported slips.

In fairness these are the first slipcovered Steelbooks Zavvi have sold, not every retailer hits it out of the park first time. The quality will hopefully improve with future releases.

The Paramount slips are poor quality with same art. The Universal slips are better quality with different artwork.

Paramount films seem to be the variant point with these slipcovers. Paramount movies from Universal get the same artwork on slip+steelbook, Universal "in-house" movies different artworks. But Universal is distributing Paramount movies in the UK (and internationally except for the US).

I think I have the Best Buy one (I'll have to check, it's upstairs and I'm too lazy to go and look) from a couple of years back which looks exactly the same (although someone will probably tell me the finish is different or something), so if I really wanted another Top Gun steelbook I think I'd go for this one instead (from amazon.com for $12) which gets bonus points for the lack of sparks flying around.
