Well, I disagree with pretty much all of you then as I think these are really good. The picture quality is good, the embossing is really good (woody's eyes, parachute, etc) and they don't feel too cheap. Just my opinion, though.

The VIVA's accomplished embossing with a barely perceptible border. I don't know why the frame has to be so thick on a steelbook.

Are Woody's eyes debossed on this one? They look sunken in.

Yeah they embossed Woody's eyes.

Best pic to show it.

Maybe Vivas had better steel. These feel so flimsy these days. Finding Nemo and Django felt so thin.

i also think scanavo need to work on a way to emboss the steels without the awful border. there has to be a way. if we can land a man on the moon, we can emboss metal without a frame. its particularly bad in these toy story steels as the border doesnt frame the art, the embossed frame makes it look horrible and cluttered.

This isn't a comment on the Toy Story steelbooks, but I believe the reason for the border is so that when stacked the embossing doesn't begin to warp/deboss. If you design the steelbook properly, this border can be a feature of the art, if you don't it looks awful.

there is never going to be a steelbook with embossing without a border,it's just something that needs to be. it's like a car without wheels.

Back of who framed roger rabbit is embossed with no border.

i think it can be done, with creativity, innovation, time and money. it just wont be done.

so we are stuck with a frame on every embossed steel that serves no purpose other than merely being a visible sign of a manufacturing process.

on another note, its not very creative what they did with the j-card thing. why couldnt they make the art continue onto the card, like they did with the fifth element steelbook? instead we get a gigantic black empty space covering 1/3 of the steelbook.

Well said Sir. People don't seem to realize the border is needed because it is extra material needed. If they didn't have the extra surrounding metal the embossing would cause the steelbook to be smaller.

And I guess people still don't know the difference in embossed (raised) and debossed (lowered). We have the problem in the slipcover world as well haha.

With few exceptions all steelbooks are debossed. The Negative space gets debossed leaving protruding elements (in this case the text, Woody's eyes etc). If they managed to deboss the back of roger Rabbit with no border they could certainly do it to the front on a steel too.

couldnt they simply make the front plates of steel an inch or two bigger, emboss them, then trim them down to size after?

Hunger Games District 12 is embossed without a border

Hunger Games District 12 is a circle with the logo
The circle is embossed in fact 2 circles are and in the circle area the embossing is done
Embossing area can be Square/Circle/Rectangular Frame
With this steelbook a circle frame is used if you notice the title is not embossed

Embossing is raised area on a steelbook and it needs a frame
When the Title is embossed you will have frame around the edges of the steelbook or centered
A border it can be centered or a border that is edge of the steelbook depending on the location and type of embossing

Frame has to be there it will depend on what style of frame on what's been embossed Square/Circle/Rectangular Frame
