If this was 2D/3D then it would probably sell out pretty quickly, but with just a 3D disc I think it might hang around for a while. There have been plenty of good films released with 2k runs that have stuck around for an age, so just because it's Transformers doesn't mean everyone will pull the trigger.

Of course, I could be dead wrong and then we'll see 500+ of these popping up on ebay just after release, as seems to happen a lot, ha ha!

But for me, I'm only interested in a 2D copy primarily and then a 3D one as a bonus. If you don't have a 3D screen, then this is not going to get bough, barring the few people that are prepared to buy it twice to have both versions and those that will buy this and a 2D amaray and swap the discs. Both of those routes are a bit pricey for me, especially considering this is a pretty average film.

Saying it makes no sense is a mute point, while I agree it's probably the worse decision I've yet to see in my short steelbook collecting phase, it makes perfect business sense to split the two, give them separate art and capitalise on collectors passion for complete sets. I'm surprised this is the first time it's happened tbh, It's like in the gaming industry when they release a game then hold back vital content as a dlc knowing gamers will bite. It p****d me off with Star Wars Force Unleashed and this example is doing them same, I'm glad it's happened on a steelbook I'm happy passing on. I just hope this isn't the beginning of my exodus from collecting as I really enjoy it, but have limited funds like all of you guys:thumbs:

Actually this is not the first time it happened. They did it to some extent with Star Trek Into Darkness. There were three UK releases of that, a 2D only one, a 2D/3D one and a 2D/3D one with the extra ship miniature. All had different art too.

As a rarity, that is fine, people do like to have variants and would probably shell out now and then. But if they start doing that on EVERY new release then who would have the money to keep up? Especially when there are already going to be THREE Blu-fans versions of this, so people looking to get each version of just this one film will be shelling out for 5+ copies (I assume there will be a US version etc etc).

It may make business sense as a one off, but as a long term strategy it will just drive people away from steelbook collecting as they just won't be able to afford it, and/or, they'll just buy the cheapest/best version and ignore any other copy.

So, no offense to ES, but I hope this version tanks so studios don't do more of it. Though I suspect it won't.

Why isn't this up for pre order yet and there's no price? If you scroll to the bottom of the link it gives you the 2D version to choose from. But if you're on the 2D version page, the 3D version isn't at the bottom of that page as a "recommendation"..why is that?

If another country gets the same art but with 2D then I will be scrapping this version in favour of that. No too bothered about the ES exclusivity.

Before buying a replacement 2D disc I will probably just wait for the 2D disc price to drop to a reasonable price...

When I put it in the basket it says error your basket is empty.. when I seach for the steelbook it only shows the 2D edition.. Anyone else having this problem?
Ps.. £22.99 is really pushing it!

Worked for me now and said I had 3 in my basket.

@harry are you seeing this?

Pre ordered for now. Not happy that they have charged the normal price for a 2D & 3D steel. If I don't cancel before it comes out then I'll buy the 2D disc about 6 months after release when it's about £7 meaning as a whole the steelbook will be £30 almost double the price of the standard 3D edition.

You could eBay the 3D disc as soon as it arrives and it will probably sell for a fair amount as movies usually do when they are first released. Does mean a empty steel in the collection though
