No. All this talk of formal apologies and trading standards (I think it would be very difficult to convince anyone other than a collector that a cardboard mailer isn't suitable packaging) is a bit ridiculous. I think some need to put this in perspective, I could reel off a list of retailers who think a cardboard mailer is great Steelbook packaging, I don't see the same amount of whining in those threads. At the end of the day, a customer always has choice. If you feel Zavvi have let you down here, then don't order from them again. Simple.

Are any of them putting out limited run exclusives?

I doubt anyone could "reel off a list" of companies that use the same pathetic mailers that Zavvi trialled. They are barely even cardboard as they are about as thick as a few sheets of paper at best, so provide minimal protection. The only other company I've received a steel in such shoddy packaging from was Base and they don't get any exclusives or half as much steelbook traffic as Zavvi do. So obviously there would be less general complaints in their thread.

ES and Amazon use cardboard mailers too, but at least they have thick cardboard and hold the steel in place (away from the outer layer of cardboard) so the risk of damage is minimal. Both also have GREAT customer service too, and ES in particular hold back copies of certain releases to account for damage.

There is really no defence for Zavvi here as they knowingly cut corners on packaging to save a buck (after they had ALREADY downgraded the packing foam to the current joke state). Cue a load of damaged products and inconsistent customer service.

It doesn't help that Zavvi has a stranglehold on the UK market with its exclusives so people can't just order elsewhere. It's a shame as this was a good release and I was lucky to get mine in one piece.

I'd agree.
I just wanted to know which other retailers were sending out limited run exclusives in thin mailers?

AmazonUSA send in cardboard mailers and I usually try avoiding ordering steelbooks from them unless its 2 steelbooks shipped same time then its in a box

AmazonUK third party sellers most send in cardboard mailers

Most UK Retailers send in Cardboard Mailers

AmazonUK special steelbook packaging is not 100% free from getting damage unless you order 2 steelbooks in same order as then the special packaging is sent in a box

Ironically Zavvi up to recently was the best for packaging using the white boxes but they were not safe from theft happening to easy to open and now their following what the rest of the UK use cardboard mailers except amazon but their boxes are exclusive to them

I haven't sent any messages to Zavvi as of yet but I will be and I will be asking them to return to the white boxes but make them be sealed so theft cant happen easily

Funny that Zavvi sent me a 10% discount code for the bad packaging of this, but they don't know mine turned up in perfect condition. But seems like a measly form of apology, unless you get a partial refund and a code I guess

I think it's time Zavvi offered a full box with foam/bubble wrap option at checkout for a small fee. That way on orders like this collectors are free to choose standard free p&p or deluxe secure packaging.

When I used Movietyme to import my DVD's that was always an option. Cost £1.50 on checkout for a secure box

The only retailers that do that are not catering to collectors. Your trying to give zavvi a free pass. Dont be so naive. All you ever want to do is argue with me because you got mad a few weeks ago. Everyone can see this as you can tell by who gives thanks to who. Same people over and over.

Go on and keep defending zavvi and discount anything I say.

I dont see Kimchi, K2DVD, or any of the other Korean or Taiwan retailers shipping product like this. Dont even bring up the shipping cost as that is the price that they are charged to ship the product.

Then more people will start moaning about paying more. Ultimately the retailer has the say but if the damage claims pile up they will have to react positively to stay in the Steel book game and continue making money.

Are you kidding me? They put out a highly sought after rare title in the worst possible packaging ever. How do you think any of us on here would be treated if we mailed our trades in packaging like that?

U r right man! That happened to me with from dust til...n a friend of mine with mars attacks...

The only reason it works now is the cheap shipping. Once the shipping price goes up then the cost of these lower quality steelbooks dont look so appealing. Your talking the same price delivered as the premium product from Kimchi.

If you want to wine and dine go to Asia. If you want MCD's go to zavvi.

I only really buy the ones with art I like, I generally don't buy their cheap ones with poor art. I do agree though, they will sell less if customers have to pay more, as at least 50% of the steels they aquire are not worth the prices they already charge. They would have to drastically increase the quality of product for a price hike, resulting in them most likely loosing deals with studios if they start trying to barter with them on better art and finishes.

Yes they are the McDonald's of steelbooks lol.

I'm not defending Zavvi, simply pointing out some of the ridiculous statements that have been posted in this thread. In fact if you look back through the thread, you'll see I gave the criticism that Zavvi deserved. It just seems that this situation has dragged on. I was also not 'mad' a few weeks ago, it is you who seems to hold the grudge. As for the 'thanks', well that entirely depends which side of the Zavvi fence you sit really but if you insist on comparing thanks, then i'm up on your total by about 14000 so I guess I win that one

Why shouldn't shipping costs be brought up? Zavvi charge 99p for International shipping, most other retailers charge realistic prices. If Zavvi charged $10 for example, i'm sure they could ship in a box with an abundance of bubble wrap.

*cough*... Entertainment Store... *cough*

And I do whine. And when I order from their ebay store, I usually wait for a tremendous drop in price, and then order two as insurance.
