I'm not defending Zavvi, simply pointing out some of the ridiculous statements that have been posted in this thread. In fact if you look back through the thread, you'll see I gave the criticism that Zavvi deserved. It just seems that this situation has dragged on. I was also not 'mad' a few weeks ago, it is you who seems to hold the grudge. As for the 'thanks', well that entirely depends which side of the Zavvi fence you sit really but if you insist on comparing thanks, then i'm up on your total by about 14000 so I guess I win that one

Why shouldn't shipping costs be brought up? Zavvi charge 99p for International shipping, most other retailers charge realistic prices. If Zavvi charged $10 for example, i'm sure they could ship in a box with an abundance of bubble wrap.

Zavvi does have a more expensive shipping option. When I buy 4 steels from zavvi they include tracking for 11.99 pounds and that is with the same individual boxes they normally ship in. How much do you think it will cost us if they add in bubblewrap and ship like the other retaliers?

This new trial is a massive fail and I think it is worse than you think. Collectors demand protected steels. If you cant be assured of that the collectors go elsewhere. I think alot of people are cancelling their orders because of this and have completely lost trust in zavvi. I know I am not the only one who has been cancelling orders.

I dont hold a grudge at all so I take that part back. I know you said things a couple days ago about zavvi and the packaging. Sometimes it just comes off as you being an employee or something. Nobody deserves rare steels sent inside a thin envelope.

I must say, this steelbook is really awesome looking. Something about it just pops for me and is probably one the best looking steels. I try and imagine what the steel would look like without the border though :p No border + this finish on it would look way more awesome.

(sorry to those that received damaged steelbooks from zavvi, new trial shipping is pretty stupid on a limited released steelbook. I love the 99p international shipping as much as the next guy, but when kimchi or PA charges me $10 for shipping it does not bother me one bit because I know the package will arrive safely. Would I pay more for shipping @ zavvi if they could ensure my order will be shipped in a box with protection? Simple answer is yes.)

I know this won't be popular for non-UK collectors but if they did start charging realistic shipping prices to international countries then they should easily be able to afford to upgrade their packaging for the steels. I've been very lucky so far that i've had very little in the way of damaged steels and those that have been damaged are only have a slight scratch which i can live with.

I got mine in today in the A1 card board mailer, with no foam on the inside. I haven't opened the steel yet but from the surface it looks perfect. Unless it's dented behind the j-card, I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

But look at Amazon UK. They charge 3x more for shipping a single steel, and they still send out ones in A1 Mailers like my damaged Fargo that arrived. More for shipping doesn't always mean extra protection. Even the 'SteelBook boxes' that AZ uses, doesn't have foam or padding to keep crush damage from occuring. It's a couple layers of cardboard and saran wrap to keep the steel from sliding around (that's when they put the steel inside the plastic instead of on top like has also happened to me :hilarious:)

Oh that old chestnut. If I had a pound... :hilarious:

...you'd be an employee? :p

For the record, I ordered and received two. First one I opened...

Hard to tell, but it's like a scuff dent. So, I got in touch and very quickly arranged for it to be returned. I told them that I would ideally like a replacement, but if that wasn't possible, a full refund. Which has happened.

After seeing just about everyone else's, I thought "I'd better open that other copy (that through the shrinkwrap looked perfect) and just check it out". Behind the j-card...

So I get in touch with them again and again, I say that I'd like a replacement but if not possible, I'd take a part refund (I wanted a copy and figured that it'd be about as good as I could get), so they've issued a 15% refund and then we've now got the 10% code to apologise too. Can't say I'm happy, because as anyone who knows me knows, OCD...but such is life.

I'll be honest, as a non-UK collector I'd be more than happy to pay more in shipping if the packaging reflected the increase. I have no problem paying $12 or more for a tracked shipment in a box with bubble wrap via Plain Archive for a single steel/slip, for instance.

I don't feel it's right to make it seem like Zavvi is alone in shipping steels poorly, they're not, but they are somewhat unique in how many exclusives/low print runs they get in combination with the poor packaging. It's the combination that really sets people off, I think.

I opened both of my steels and discovered a fairly deep scratch on one underneath a rating sticker, and several very small dents on the other in addition to the small scratches I already knew about. So now I get to decide which one I'm keeping (scratch on the front vs small dents, awesome choice!) while I heckle Zavvi for a partial refund on one + a full refund on the other.

This kind of minor damage could have easily been avoided and has ruined this steel's release for a lot of people. And that sucks, especially considering it really is one of Zavvi's better steels.

EXACTLY...
if these wouldn´t be ZAVVI exclusives I would just order from amazon.. sure sometimes they eff up too.. BUT they´ve got EXCELLENT customer service helping you within hours... most of the time a new replacement is already in the mail for you before ZAVVIs customer service would even think about reading your emails... and WITHOUT asking you for pics/or if you´d accept a lousy 10% refund a few times or other crap to try and annoy you to get you off the complaint route..
THEY are the self proclaimed home of SteelBooks and a sorta "paradise" for some SB fanatics so it´s only fair to expect at least the very basic sort of customer service and a bit of careful packaging from them

Received mine in the US today. Unscathed, despite being packaged in a manner which shall only be discussed in the appropriate retailer thread. ;)

In hand I think it's a beautiful release. The border doesn't bother me that much in person. The red really "pops", and I love the deep black, though it made me cringe pulling off the ratings stickers...
