Just had an email from Zavvi asking me to review my recent purchase of this. I don't think it's gonna make the website...

This steelbook is a beauty, very well embossed and a nice gloss finish. Unfortunately there is some stretching on the corners of the steel but this has become the norm recently for glossed steels. The steel itself is definitely 5 stars

As for Zavvi, well they get 1 star but only cos I can't them a 0! They decided this would be a great time to trial new, shoddy packaging! So rather than a sturdy box and a protective foam layer, some idiot thought it would be a good idea to just use a flimsy cardboard mailer!

The good news is that because so many of the ultra limited 2,500 print run were damaged in transit, if you did manage to get a good copy it will double in value if you're a scalper.

Had the same email, will be doing my review later .... Don't think they will post it either lol.

Don't pay any attention to that. I wasted my time writing a review on their website, wasn't in anyway offensive/negative towards the way they conduct business, review never appeared on site. I don't know why they bother prompting people to write reviews if it's guesswork whether or not it'll even get posted.

Well, a few posts back, I said watch out for a flash sale and 10% off code... Zavvi so predictable.

It's been difficult, as getting steels is addictive, but I have still not purchased anything from them.

Respect for the other posters who have also taken a stand.

Zavvi can let HDN know about discounts and new releases, but how about an apology/explanation via HDN? Not going to happen, but just saying. I can't order another steel until the packaging issue is clarified.

Hear Hear! I have cancelled 10 pre-orders with them since all of this, after also discovering they had changed multiple pre-order dates without updating my orders in my account or emailing me.

Everything about them is just shoddy.

Well I still haven't received my copy, but thanks to my main man lgans316 I should have a copy soon :scat:

Either mr peter creedy has his hands on my copy or the post man is singing

Yea they told me the same, they always do this with super limited steels that sell out. Keep a small amount aside and sell them on ebay / amazon for a £1 or too more.

I notice their selling a lot of stuff through amazon, and have extemely positive feedback lol

Whilst I agree with this, I re-ordered most of mine at the lower price, and cancelled several last week. From now on, when possible I will try to avoid buying too much from them. I'm not going to boycott Zavvi based on the bad packaging, sure they should know better after branding themselves "The home of steelbookz" however recently I ordered from FoxDirect and what did the FuturePak arrive in? A cardboard mailer, the same as Zavvi.

There's no escape from the bad packaging and we've got very few alternatives instead of Zavvi, that's eBay/HDN/Amazon and maybe at an inflated price. I'm sure Amazon are working on cutting back packaging costs too like when they shelved free delivery under £10. So you either stop buying steelbooks or hope for the best it arrives unscathed.

I think Zavvi are aware of this, and I hope for international buyers especially, they bring back the standard boxes.

I respect your stance and I am not asking anyone to follow suit. At the end of the day, it's what's suits the person.

It's not just the packaging issues. It's the poor level of service, damaged steels, spine splashes, cancelled orders and no empathy shown from them. A discount code or a few quid off loses it's charm.

I appreciate some retailers have tried/still send out in cardboard mailers. I also avoid them. Fox Direct, albeit 3 months ago when I last ordered, using similar packaging to ES.

I have it disagree about amazon. Their packaging has been fantastic and even if a cardboard mailer did get sent out, you don't have to jump through hoops and do star jumps for a resolution, like you do for Zavvi.

We all have different tolerance levels. After what has been countless issues with Zavvi orders, I decided to finally stop accepting their BS.

I have been collecting for nearly a year now and have no intention of giving up. I do not need Zavvi to help my hobby survive and in turn, will never accept 2nd rate packaging, or products.

I wan't to look forward to receiving my steelbook, not hoping it arrives unscathed. That sentence sums up the Zavvi experience right there.

I wrote a cracking review of Seven Samurai - the first Japanese film I ever saw, at the age of 7, in the local re-run specialist cinema along with my Mum.

It hooked me - and hence the review (strictly of the film) was glowing, and to the point - was it published - was it HELL!!

As for V for Vendetta, mine like many others it seems, were sent out in the flimsy card mailers - amazingly both copies were perfect - and I can't even see any of the stretching on the corners mentioned previously.

So, with a perfect copy, and a spare to boot now, I think I was very lucky indeed.

That said, and bearing in mind that Amazon UK, Amazon Fr, ES, Fox Direct and Amazon De (amongst others) all stoop to sending out steels in padded bags at times, they really do need to make sure packaging is up to standard at all times.

I for one am not stopping buying from Zavvi, or any of the others mentioned - if they have titles I want, then I'll buy and will endure the privations necessary to get the copy I want in the condition I want.
It's not ideal, and they don't provide 'Customer Service' as veterans of the retail trade were taught it - but then who does provide that these days?

Finally got this in the mail. Was really worried when I saw the thin brown cardboard, but except for a tiny paint chip on the bottom corner, looks fine. Phew...

I haven't gotten a crazy bad condition steelbook yet for Zavvi. Which can mean that I'm overdue for one... :ohno:
