People expect something to become rare and valuable within a couple of days/weeks.. i guess in 2 years from now, we'll be very surprised what zavvi release will actually become valuable..

just look at the thing uk.. 2 years ppl struggled to sell it at cost, but now suddenly its going for 4x RRP

When I got message from Maximus it was sold out, in 5 mins time I checked it again it was sold out again. Didn't understand anything actually :) Not a big deal to miss this one as I already have it in steelbook...

You probably needed to clear your cache, initially it was sold out for me, cleared my cache and it was there.

I just thanked your Tolkien collection, some nice stuff, I live near to Sarehole Mill, said to have inspired all the LOTR's, very interesting place, if ever you come to England you must do the Tolkien Trail

I agree. I think it will happen anyway. The price will go up in the weeks leading up to the release date, then it will be released and boom the price will fall as eBay as flood with extra copies bought for 'trade'.

Why? I've ordered almost fifty titles and only had a couple that were damaged. Ordering two of everything can be very expensive and most of the time you end up stuck with the spares. I had to send back Dumbo and Lady and the Tramp as there were no takers even at cost price including postage. It's just not worth the hassle for me, I'd rather just take my chances.

They take copies from other people who genuinely want the Steelbook just so it can sit on their thread for months whilst they try to charge an obscene amount of money or trade it for Iron Man (or any other rare title that no-one in their right mind would agree to trade for it).

I hate it when members buy spares and then offer them to other members as favours. Even worse are those who hold group buys for titles like this. If people didn't do this in the first place, there would be enough copies to go around.

Exactly. Well said. It is a vicious circle IMHO. Would someone need to buy extra copies of V For Vendetta to trade for a copy of Mars Attacks if a bunch people hadn't bought up all the extra copies of Mars Attacks to trade for....

That is exactly the kind of activity and one of the main reasons I got out of Action Figure collecting. It became less, and less about collecting what I wanted and having fun with the hobby and more, and more about having no choice to engage in hours of bartering and wheeling and dealing with a variety of characters that ranged from friendly and pleasant to the greedy and unsavory.

It's basic business- supply and demand.

If no one was prepared to pay highly inflated prices then ebayers wouldn't even attempt to get it.

If these flood ebay and there's no demand then the price is likely to reflect that and some people may even grab them at below zavvi.

In an ideal world it would be limited to 1 per customer but then they packaging would have to be a lot better because I will always order 2 of a steel I really want on the off chance one is damaged and I'm sure many others do the same.

It's NOT basic business though. It is tantamount to ticket scalping. A select few buy up much of the legitimate supply so they can demand much more than they paid for it.

A reasonable limit should be set for buying X number of copies for X number of days and then after that it should be open season to all. Problem is that the kind of folks that will put someone else over a barrel just to turn a quick buck will find a way around the restrictions....they always do.

I totally agree. The problem will never be solved unless collectors take a stand.

Exactly. It isn't basic business, it is a bunch of middlemen securing most of the stock and creating an artificial lack of supply.

DRAT!!! I was at work when it went live so I've missed this one. I didn't have the previous steelbook version either so I'm pretty bummed out about this.

My guess is there will be some cancellations. If you missed it yesterday try to catch it next time!

Went Live at 4.46pm
Sold out at 7.14pm

Some servers took longer to show as sold out this is normal

Sold out in 2 hours 32 Minutes

It will be back for sale soon Sun or Mon

Keep watch on this thread for notice when it will be available again

And if no one paid what they demanded then they wouldn't be able to sell and would have to lower their price. Buyers actually dictate the market value ultimately which people seem to forget.

I just don't think it's worth getting worked up over anymore- zavvi royally f'd me off with what they did with the Aladdin steels but they were the original seller and put cancelled copies on eBay before it was released for more than the website sold them at.

I don't think they repeated that funnily enough...

Before you all start judging, remember that those that take part in FS / Target / HMV group buys require a person to go in and take the majority of stock - meaning locals don't get the chance to buy. Is that fair?

It's a first come first serve business world, the majority of stores won't normally care who buys it as long as its registered on on their tills.

Swings and roundabouts.

There is a reason they did not repeat that after Aladdin
I made an official complaint that ended up them calling me on my phone
I got Aladdin for free also as a result
I won't discuss the phone call as that was between me and zavvi
They understood the mistake and it has not happen again with a sold out pre order
After release date they can sell where ever that want but not before
If it's not selling well that's a different matter
