Warner Bros. Wave - May 7, 2013 (Blu-ray SteelBooks) [USA]

A new wave of Steelbooks coming to the USA, due for release on May 7th 2013-appearing at multiple retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Barnes and Noble, in-store at Costco, etc.

Small update:

actually about 3-4 titles will have inside art.

Love that the US is getting steelbooks but please do them right like in the UK. If I had to get one from this wave, it would be Batman Returns.

Cool to see a big U.S. wave like this, but the inclusion of all of the already-released Best Buy titles and art for just the few new additions paints a pretty clear picture. More crummy "budget" steels with cheap tin, cheap finishes, and no inside art.

That said, I'll buy Face/Off regardless, and if I'm wrong about the quality, I'd be interested to see if Chinatown and Gladiator are upgrades over their EU predecessors. I prefer the German Chinatown art, but no inside art was a bummer... and the UK Gladiator is nice (the best release so far IMO), but it's riddled with logos and printing.

One thing I gotta say though, looking at the handful of mockups reminds me how much I hate when [whoever makes these decisions] moves the [permanent] front artwork down to make room for a [temporary] piece of freakin' paper. Grinds the hell out of my gears. Once you open the thing, it looks so damned stupid. It's not even close either, it's always comfortably spaced away from the foldover banner as if looking "natural" while sealed is at all important (sorry non-openers). Looking at something like the Play release of Collateral or Saving Private Ryan out of its packaging just rolls my eyes so hard.

I hate to be such a Negative Nancy, I sincerely hope I'm wrong on all counts, but if this is just an extension of the low-effort, low quality Best Buy line, then I'm going to have a hard time putting my money behind it.

I dont understand the reason for them re-re-re releasing the same titles as the BB wave. Those sat on the shelves(and still are) for a really good while and they were priced at $10. Every collector that wanted those steels got em already for a great price and now they are trying to sell em for $17. Even if the new collectors are excited and buy these I doubt the companies will make any profit. Now if theses are better quality, that makes it a little better but it doesn't change the fact that 85% of this wave are already on every bodies shelves. Should have just included the new titles that werent released in US already imo.

perhaps what we think are re-re-re releases are simply just the exclusive (time) being up for Best Buy so the stock still at studio is able to be sold off (and sold) to places like amazon, wbshop etc.
