It could be simply that someone wants to own the movie, and they ideally want it in a steelbook. So, here's that chance.

I fall in that category myself. I do want to own the movie, and I did want a steelbook wrapped around it, sadly though the artwork is (like many releases) bloody awful. So what choice do I have? Not buy a film I want? Not buy the steelbook version which I want? Or buy it, accepting that it's not as nice as I was hoping it would be?

There are 1000's of releases with terrible artwork that I haven't bought, the reason though being that I don't want those movies. There have been a few I have bought even though the steelbook leaves a lot to be desired (Batman: The Movie, Iron Man 3, The Punisher (both versions)) because I want those movies in steelbooks. It's just a shame the steelbooks weren't as I hoped.
Simple, don't buy it. The more people that continually buy crap like this sends a message to companies that we'll buy any old junk, so they will continue to produce garbage.

Buy the amaray and stick it in one of the DOFP you most likely already own. [emoji6] That's what I'm doing, because this art is beyond unacceptable.

Please read the comments I've already written in regards as to why I'm buying it (there must be a few between the one you quoted and this one). I couldn't make my points any clearer. It's up to me what I buy or why I buy it.

Besides, as the steelbook has the same art as the amaray, what message are you sending the studios by still buying it? That it's okay that the artwork is crap because you're still buying it? Even if you (or any of us) wait for a dramatic price drop, I imagine all that will tell Fox is that there's no demand for extended/alternative editions of their movies, not that they need to put more effort into their designs..

The message we're sending is we want different better art on steelbooks as they are premium collectables. You are incorrect, if the amaray sells well but the steelbook doesn't it sends the correct message as Fox already know steels sell well. When one doesn't they know it's not the content on a film like this.

Do steelbooks sell well though?

Sure, some do and sell out straight away. Some are clearly desirable and command high prices on Ebay later on. But there are many, some with print runs of 2000 that are still available on Zavvi months later and heavily reduced.

There's a lot of factors to take into account and while artwork is important, so is the title, price, finish, print run and so on. I'm honestly not sure how much studios care about steelbook sales (the retailer might). For a print run of 3000, how much profit is there to be made for the studio?

In a perfect world, all steelbooks would look amazing and have perfect finishes and no spine slashes, but there you go. All anyone can do is decide if they like a specific steelbook enough at the price it's being offered to buy it. If you don't, that's fine. If someone does, that's fine too.

man, whatever happened to rogue? no wonder she got cut.

and have decided to cancel my order, £17 for 17 mins! i'll pass, the extended cut should have been on the original release

That's the thing, it's not an extended cut with 17 minutes of additional footage, it's an alternate cut with 17 minutes of different footage sometimes at the expense of existing footage.

IMO, the theatrical cut of any movie should always be the first option when it comes to the home video release. Any extended/alternate versions should be an available option. Preferably packaged in the first release, or at the very least, announced as a possibility/definite release before the first release comes out which to be fair, The Rogue Cut was just in the same way as TLOTR and Hobbit movies were.

Erm... Incorrect. It's the theatrical cut plus 17 extra minutes

(Why on earth would it be what you've just said, has that ever happened before with any film ever?)

It is apparenty a slightly altered cut too.

Rogue is spelled wrong :D isn't the pic for Rogue from Xmen The last Stand?
For DoFP she was wearing a White suit.

I dunno about what movie this rouge is from. I googled "Rogue Days of Future Past" and that is what came up. This will teach me to Photoshop with a hangover.

Oh deer? :OMG: :wtf:
what an awful design.

At least I tried and put a tiny bit of effort into it...unlike whoever the person was that designed this sorry excise for a steelbook.

Actually, Tenderheartbear is correct

The film has been classified by the BBFC and its 11 mins longer. The 17 minutes is that additional 11 minutes and an additional 6 mins of alternate footage within the film

A good example is Nightbreed : DC . It was 20 mins longer but had around 45 mins of new footage edited in.

Superman II The Richard Donner Cut has a lot of additional footage at the expense of the Richard Lester scenes.

Suzannah York completely replaced by Marlon Brando, the Paris terrorists swapped with the Niagara falls scenes and the fan favourite 'would you care to step outside?' line swapped with 'haven't you heard about freedom of the press?' Not to mention turning the world back (planned for Superman II but ultimately used in the first movie).

Intrestingly enough, Germany have just revealed some specs for this

2 disc set containing both the Rogue Cut and Theatrical Cut (in 2D only) and 90 mins of new bonus material (including a sneeky peaky at the new Fantastic Four film), picture gallery and new interviews

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-n...ay-disc-mit-deutscher-tonspur-in-dts-hd-ma-51

what needs to be confirmed is that the steelbook is only 1 disc (the film) as the regular amaray is showing 2 discs on Zavvi.
