First POWERS cast photo revealed

In 2004, comic book creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming came together to create an innovative take on the superhero genre. POWERS is a comic with superheroes, but they’re not the stars of the story. Instead readers follow Detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim as they solve crimes that revolve around super-powered beings. The comic is still going to this day (currently being published through Marvel’s ICON imprint) and after years of being in development hell, the television adaptation is finally happening.

Produced by Sony exclusively for their PlayStation Network, POWERS will star Sharlto Copley as Walker and Susan Heyward as Pilgrim. USA Today delivered a first look at both Copley and Heyward in character earlier today.

Episode One will be written by Charlie Huston and directed by David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT). Huston also serves as showrunner alongside Remi Aubuchon. With THE WALKING DEAD being such a ratings phenomenon, I’m sure that Sony is hoping that the same lightning can strike their bottle.

POWERS airs this December on the PSN.
