CBS has released the first image of Melissa Benoist in her costume from the upcoming SUPERGIRL series. The costume has some similarities to the Superman costume in the Zack Snyder film MAN OF STEEL such as the darker coloring, the meshy material, and the accents. It also has taken some queues from the SUPERGIRL movie in the ’80s starring Helen Slater. It was designed by Coleen Atwood, the three-time Oscar winner who also came up with the costumes in THE FLASH and ARROW.

There had been some fan debate on whether to keep the skirt, go with pants or try something a little different altogether. As a comics fan, I like the look of the skirt. It keeps with the comic book look, but it’s how it would translate from page to screen without a complete revamp.

SUPERGIRL has begun filming the pilot which will be aired in TBA 2015.
