Here's a main thread for the upcoming 007 Steelbook Wave being released in the UK.

Thought we could use this just so everyone has a place to navigate towards any of the titles easily, without having to search through the forum.

Why did Zavvi think those Steelbooks would go along with these ones

I wanted more Bond Steels to go along with these ones.....now they are all going to be different ¬¬

Yep both of those are nice steels. I want the rest of the Bond films with that level of attention and finish. Not those 7 utter turds.

Using the opening titles for Steelbook art is a cool idea. I don't think they all work, but points for trying something different. I also like how if you line them all up, it's almost a like a timeline of visual design through the decades.

Definitely interested in picking these up, but dunno if I want to commit to a 20+ run of Steels.

I really don't think the artwork itself is to blame. These are iconic images after all - I mean, it really doesn't get more iconic than Bond intros. The problem really is that the art was designed as part of a moving sequence, and not for being cropped and oddly edited into static images for boxart.

Personally, a lot of the appeal for me is that I love 70s graphic design, especially book covers, so I'm all over some of these Steels. But, that being said, these really need some interesting finishes and effects to actually work, and I'm not gonna commit to any until I see some actual photos.

I like the idea of them using the opening sequences as inspiration for the covers. It does go nice on a steelbook due to the minimalism. Better that than just the DVD/Blu-Ray covers that people seem to want.

thats how they make money by re-re-releasing with different artwork just like FF series and other titles

well seems they tried and failed tbh. a shame really (n)
what also make you laugh there is a link in the op for all 7 but when you look at the price it still works out 16.99 a steel, no discount for buying the lot either.
reckon these be in the bargain bin within 6 months at around £9.99 a pop, when they worked out there not going to sell.

Just wish at some point a studio would come to hdn and actually ask what we would like for art, look at @zesty offerings for many films as one fine example of how to do it :notworthy:

basil

Even the covers from the recent Blu-ray releases would have been better, and certainly would have matched the last Skyfall steelbook.

This set reminds me too much of the Fox wave that included Day the Earth Stood Still, Speed and Big. The idea's there, but it doesn't work. As someone said, the credits work in motion, not as static images and they generally don't have an iconic frame to focus on as they change constantly for around 3 minutes.

If they wanted to go minimalist, then the rear should have been the gun-barrel scene from the movie (or at least one of the movies featuring that specific Bond), you'd only need at most 7 back-plate designs on over 20 movies. The inside art should have been either the most iconic scene, ie: Shirley Eaton covered in gold paint/Gemma Arterton covered in oil, or a scene featuring Bond with the main villain. Black and white would have been fine.

As for the front, either the same as the recent releases, theatrical poster art or some kind of 'beauty-shot' like Skyfall and the one of Craig at the poker table on Casino Royale. Elegant and classy.

First time I saw them I thought terrible but the more I look the more they actually grow on me :wtf:

Do think they will be in the normal zavvi bargain bin soon after release though which is a shame as alot of people have been waiting/hoping for these for years!

I really like them! I also do not mind the fact that they are different from Goldfinger - it was a 50 year special edition! I will likely just get From Russia with Love, Thunderball (to complete the set, Dr No sucked) and Casino Royale.

I'm not even sure they did try. I think someone somewhere was given the job of designing all of these and decided to make life as easy as possible by just taking a still from the opening credits. I think if they went to zesty levels of effort it would have taken much more time and effort, so they didn't bother.

But as I said in one of the individual threads, I'm actually relieved as it means I won't be remotely tempted to buy an expensive space-consuming wave.

Some look awesome. But its clear as day that they are designed in a way to avoid all "likenesses"

For me, some of these covers a good, other not so. I think they made the right choice not using the original poster art for them all as after the 60's films they get a bit bland (Bond standing between a womans open legs pointing a gun) and I like the fact they have tried something different. The problem is when you are releasing a huge set of films (assuming the do the rest) it would be pretty hard to make all of them to everyone tastes, a couple are bound to be poor. Also, at £16.99 a pop i'll stick to my original DVD collection apart from the Craig ones, I can't justify buying Moonraker twice!

Artwork on these are disappointing

I was expecting James Bond steelbooks to happen this year or next year but the choice of artwork style I'm not impressed with
Also are we going to see another batch of the other films get a steelbook release

I will pre order
Casino Royale
You Only Live Twice
From Russia With Love

The rest I'm not so sure about even though I'm a big fan of James Bond
I have all the films on DVD twice and have Blu-ray steelbooks of Goldeneye/Skyfall/Goldfinger

I delayed getting the rest on Blu-ray as I knew they would most likely do steelbooks for the rest of the films at some stage
I was thinking about getting the The Complete James Bond Collection Blu-ray Box Set but the price put me off

I might now decide to get the Blu-ray Box Set instead

The back and especially the inside artwork is poor with most of them except Casino Royale and You Only Live Twice
The inside artwork with just 007 is poor and lazy in my opinion

Its very disappointing the choice of films MGM/FOX have chosen and Dr No the first film not part of this batch in UK or Germany

These could have been brilliant steelbooks if they had of been done well

I do like the concept for the artwork, but some do look much better than others.

I have the Bond 50 boxset though, so I'll be passing on these. God knows what I'm going to do when the new one comes out though :dunno:
