I don't think we'll know till it's actually released. That one doesn't even state the finish on their page (not like that matters anymore now).

no, not on their site. but digitalbabe "confirmed" that. and i assume that she had this info also from zavvi...

Going to cancel mine.
If the artwork was WE I would buy but I am not a huge fan of the artwork on these.
Prefer the quad steelbook they released.

under Description on Zavvi it states

Zavvi Exclusive Limited Edition Steelbook with a Gloss Finish.

I take issue with the 'gloss' claim on their website. Whether this was misinformation from Zavvi or Fox is irrelevant, it's simply not true.

Now, personally, I don't care. In all honesty I didn't think it would be gloss anyway (no matter what the listing said), when was the last time Fox released a glossy steelbook? Rise of the Planet of the Apes? Predators? Avatar? While I appreciate that gloss is the preferred option to many collectors, most of us know the score by now (not that it excuses the listing).

I do think Zavvi get a lot of flack. They don't help themselves though, that's for sure. Poor customer service, unable to change addresses or credit card details etc. But (99 times out of 100) the quality of the finish, overall design, embossing and so on are nothing to do with them. The fact that some titles are exclusives doesn't mean they have any say over the actual product.

Let's say that Alien 3 is an Amazon exclusive (I know it's not), would all the Zavvi haters bang on about 'another matt-finish Amazon steelbook, sort it out, why did you choose such a poor design'? I doubt it.

Thing is, I still would've bought this had I known it was matte, and I'm sure others would have too... it's the fact they lied that's really annoyed me. I'm not going to return mine, but I'm not sure where I'd stand even if I wanted to... I didn't realise it wasn't gloss until I'd unwrapped it.

Even though you are keeping this if you wanted to return and get a refund you could

It does not matter you unwrapped as in opened the steelbook
Your Return would not come under unwanted item
You Return if you wished to would be
Reason for return item not as described
Sales of good act would apply under descriptions of goods for sale

But as your keeping yours this not the issue but for anyone who is
Make sure your clearly state reason for the Return as item not as described

Thanks for that mate. Very helpful!

Well I'm keeping mine, I got 20% off so it's worth for one of my favourite movies. At least it will match the others but I will only get Alien now for sure.

If Zavvi were just passing on information and didn't 100% know from the studio they know now so why haven't they updated the description? or even informed customers before they sent them that what they were buying doesn't match the description. Not good enough.

Yeah I know that.

But I'm a skeptic and words don't mean much to me, hence why I cancelled all my orders and now wait till I see in-hand pics. I was also told when I first came onto this site that asking whether or not a certain Pixar release would have a gloss finish was a stupid question! Was told Pixar is always gloss. Then look what happened when the Toy Story's came out. Skepticism 3. Blind (and foolish) faith 0

Anyway, blessing in disguise, because I've purchased over 180 steels since October, and that **** starts to add up, especially paying scalped prices for most of them.

Having seen Vocent7's picture, not considering who designed, made or sold this steelbook, from that picture, all of my worst fears of what this steelbook would end up looking like have come true, poor art print quality, no gloss to make the colours pop, streaky... as its turned out to not be gloss, what would have saved it a little for me, would have been to emboss the title (the boarder wouldn't have messed with the artwork as it has a black background).

Mine hasn't arrived yet but when it does i will consider if its worth the hassle of returning it.. This was going to be my first aliens steelbook I've ever bought so theres still a part of me that says f#$/ it and just keep it, it can't be any worse in hand than the pictures postedEEK! I think my pre orders for 1 and 3 might be cancelled though.

I love my 6 disc BD boxset so at least I still have that:D

Just taking photos of today's steels and this is definitely a gloss finish. It may not be the super high gloss finish that appears on jack reacher, but this is certainly not matte, streaky matte, or clear finish. This definitely has at least one coat of gloss, the same as die hard 4 which has been glossed too.

Got mine this morning, I am a bit gutted it is not full on gloss but the front image is not that bad as I was expecting from being on here this morning, also considering what could have happened (Warner wave). The blue glow around the lettering has a hint of bling about it and is not bad at all. The back image on the other hand is almost 8-bit and looks rubbish.

I am keeping it as this is one of my favorite films of all time and I primarily collect 80's steel but damn, this could have been so much better. I only own the £10 slimline Alien Anthology but if you own better sets I wouldn't DD unless you are hardcore on Aliens.

Mostly keeping mine sealed for now.....mostly.
