Hi members of HiDefNinja, it is with some sadness that I write to you today about the end of an era here at HDN.

Recently a situation unfolded where one of our group buy hubs was accused of stealing a number of copies of a BluFans release, and was told that they needed to repay Kevin over $1,000 to replace the items that were lost.

The items in question represent less than 1% of the total items in a BluFans print run.

Some people would have you believe this is just a "disagreement" between HDN and Kevin.

If you are new to HDN, or perhaps just not aware of how these group buys work with BluFans - the hubs, the persons responsible for shipping out hundreds upon hundreds of steelbooks work for very little (if any) compensation. I would propose that our hubs are some of the most trustworthy members here and a great asset to this site. Often they do their best to combine shipping for you to reduce the cost in general and bring you a great release, safely packaged and delivered - such that you do not have to rely on ebay sellers or other folks that will mark these items up.

Having said that, packages sent from BluFans are done in the following way.

1) They are marked a very low value and as "plastic" cards to avoid customs
2) Tracking numbers, are rarely shared with the hubs.
3) There is no invoice or packing slip that state how many items should have been received.
4) Sometimes members are left off or missed in the creation of the lists. Meaning the count of the total items sent is not always accurate.

Therefore, as a hub on this forum, there is a level of trust that we put in not only BluFans, but also bluraysteel (Kevin) to accurately and correctly convey our responsibilities in delivering these releases to you. To give you an idea, one box (only one!) of BluFans steels can exceed $900 in total value.

These boxes are NOT insured! So what happens when items are lost, not sent, or the records are incorrect? It appears that they will come after the group buy hubs! :(

And as this trust has now been violated, as no hub now or previously (unless they keep very thorough records of every shipment made, to every member that is on their list) can completely disprove the accusation that has been made. We have nothing at our disposal that can show without a doubt what we say is true, despite the pictures on our threads of the items, the posts about when we received them, and the other information we very publicly share with you, our members, to keep you up to date.

To restate this...it has been said that one of us, one of our hubs, is not a person that can be trusted.

I've gone to great lengths to personally investigate this question and provide pictures, posts and other information that show very clearly that HDN nor our hub stole from BluFans.

I think we can all agree that we love BluFans releases. We love the package, we love their thought and care that is put into creating a wonderful collectors items. But it seems as though bluraysteel has decided to take all of his group buys somewhere else in retaliation for not sending him $1000.

I cannot stop you from supporting BluFans releases, and I'm not asking you to not buy their steelbooks. But I would like you to consider that you will not receive the support from moderators and staff members on other forums that you have received here. There likely will not be any quantity per member limits that are enforced. There will not be the hubs you have worked with so many times before. I hope there are not other challenges as well.

I would like to take this opportunity to call on BluFans, to call on Abu to replace bluraysteel as the liaison between our two forums, and to instead use someone that can work with HDN, and will not turn on HDN or our hubs so quickly.

Thank you very much for reading this thread, and I would like to personally apologize to you if this causes any trouble.

For members of my UP 3D slip hub, as far as I'm aware some of these are on the way to me currently - and if they do arrive, I will continue to assist in completing this group buy and bring you the items you paid for.

Best regards,

Andy

Sad news to read today, I dind't really know this was happening behind the scenes. Hoping everything turns out okey for all parties/sides. Keep Calm and Carry On...

Worst case I guess it is time for kimchi and ES to step up and fill the void of monthly high quality steels for this community.

And it is time for Zavvi to really stand up, they have the UK market for Disney and they could really take advantage of this situation if they improved their quality.

As for the whole situation, only those involved know what really happened all I can hope for is that I get my copy of Up, I never joined the Monsters University GB as after 3 BF GB's I find the while BF's experience a little too frustrating. Like many others I agree that it is time for BF to evolve.

There are some reliable and good Chinese Ninjas here but some of them are not in good terms with Blufans. There is nothing like befriending someone who lives in China. I am sure HDN will find someone from China who can help fellow Ninjas.

I'm confused as to why Kevin would even levy a complaint or concern about the trustworthyness of HDN because a steelbook count is incorrect. Given these shipments are done 3rd party, and NOT in association with HDN, it makes it impossible that HDN has anything to do with this issue. And to insist monies be paid by HDN for a shipment they had nothing to do with given they don't own Blufans, is absurd.

Having worked with shipments for decades now I know it is up to the receiving party to ensure, at receipt of goods, that all goods are accounted for. Mistakes on manifests are a fact of life, and I've had to contact suppliers dozens of times over the years for shipment quantities not matching the manifest. It seems Blufans doesnt use invoices or manifests, so the burden of shipment accuracy falls on the shoulders of the receiver of goods. That person needs to know the amount they're receiving, and ensure immediately it is all there, if only to let the shipper know the order wasn't fullfilled. The responsible party for that is the receiver of merchanise.

I'm definitely not blaming Kevin here but I find it interesting what he says in his signature at blu-ray.com "I will have a open letter for all my group buy members at HDN soon and what you see there are bunch of lies."

I really hope HDN can work something out with Blufans as I view the Blufans releases like the cream of all steelbooks. :)

I think with all the good work that KimchiDvd does, and now Plain Archive is shipping international, and making steelbooks, we will be fine for future high quality releases. I am not gonna go run to another site to keep buying blufans, which are awesome steelbooks, but this is where I get my blu-ray info, and spend my money. This site has been good to me, and all the people I have became friends with or dealt with have always been more than helpful.

these kind of situations are why I dont usually get involved in group buys

I owe so much some members here on HDN. They do group buys and some even hold my 50+ steels at their home till they send them to me. I never meet those people in real life but trust level is like they've been my friend for 30 years.

If you generalize you statement like this it will be very wrong and misleading...

I know everybody (and their Moms) have put in their two cents here. I myself would like to put in mine as a newer member/collector.

First of all, I've only been collecting steelbooks since August of 2013. I've been a self-proclaimed "movie buff" and have owned a few steelbooks (a dozen or less) for a few years. So I knew steelbooks existed, but had NO CLUE about the size of the market there was for them. One day I was searching for 3D Blu-rays and came across some steelbooks. When searching for steelbooks alone, I came across some 9000 odd results. In looking through them (and at the time, not knowing my @$$ from a hole in the ground as far as steelbooks went), to me, the Blufans steelbooks were BY FAR, the most impressive and I was instantly HOOKED by them. In doing some more research, I came across hidefninja.com amongst other forum sites. For the next week or so, I quietly browsed through each site trying to decide which one I wanted to ultimately invest my time in.

After doing so, HDN was the clear cut winner. To me, it didn't (and doesn't) seem like the moderators are as involved on any other forum the way that they are on HDN. I immediately began doing what I needed to do to be able to be a part of the Group Buys and then, participated in my first. I was more than impressed in the matter that it was conducted. Meanwhile, I made my first buy from the trade/sales threads, and soon thereafter, my first trade. My initial intent was to get my hands on EVERY past Blufans release and keep up with getting their new releases as they were the reason for my EVERY move up to that point.

Some months and hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars later, I had them all in hand (or preordered). [Sidenote: the dollar amount was for ALL steelbooks I had collected. Not just Blufans.] I then posted a thread advocating that there be a Blufans Award available to members seeing as they (Blufans steels) seemed, to me, to be the most popular amongst the masses and that there seemed to be such a GREAT relationship between HDN and the Blufans company per Kevin. That along with the fact that we (HDN) were obviously their biggest and best customer, it just made sense to have the award. Digitalbabe replied within minutes saying that there would be efforts to make this happen. I don't think it was even a week later and there was an available award for a Blufans collection. From what I've seen, HDN and its Mods have ALWAYS been about its members and the collector in general.

And then yesterday occurred....

I was alerted by a fellow member/Blufans collector (who's come to be a great friend of mine) of what had taken place. I then read the OP of this thread and was flabbergasted beyond belief. I couldn't make sense of ANY of it. It was the last thing I thought would EVER be possible. I know that MANY a ninja shared in my feelings too. And for me, being forced to turn to another forum or eBay for Blufans steelbooks was the last thing that crossed my mind.

I was baffled at how the situation seemed to be so cut and dry. HDN has been VERY open about all of this, but I'm sure there was quite a bit of back and forth that took place between both HDN and Kevin before the split. I couldn't (and still can't) comprehend how there was no positive resolution reached. I know that this couldn't have been without maximum effort on HDN's part. In any situation I've come across that HDN has been a part of (positive or negative), they have gone above and beyond the call of duty to try and find a solution that works best for EVERYONE involved. With that being said, I don't blame anyone in particular for the events that took place. Knowing what I know about every facet involved, I believe both parties consider their side of the story to be true. I have my opinions, but they won't do any good in this situation.

My point in this RIDICULOUSLY long, drawn out personal anecdote is this...I got into this hobby because of Blufans Steelbooks. I have since swayed my loyalties more towards the HDN community. I've not only put together a stellar steelbook collection here, but have also made some lifelong friends. I would like to think that once things settle down that there will be a resolution that brings Blufans steelbooks back to HDN... but if there isn't, then I'll consider it an end to a BEAUTIFUL chapter and will be more than appreciative for what I received and learned from it.

I ALWAYS have been, and ALWAYS will be a HIDEF NINJA!!!

I have been very fortunate to be involved in several group buys in the last 12 months and have some of the nicest steelbooks because of this so I want to say a massive thank you to HDN and the mods for there help and hard work in making this happen, I will continue to support and follow the forums and encourage my fellow Ninja's to do the same, fingers crossed everyone gets any SB's they have paid for. ;-)
