I dont know how long I will do this, or if people have questions ... but I'll check this thread daily in case people have questions about steelbooks etc. I'll try to answer to the best of my ability from what I am allowed to say in some cases or just info you may not have seen me drop before in past threads.

Thanks for helping Jango ....

I haven't followed the jumbo's to be quite honest. I caught wind of separate releases for next year so I myself am holding off for that.

quick question. does anyone have any idea on when blufans may be releasing another steelbook

Releasing or Announcing? Big difference with them ... their are always rumors floating around of what they want to release next but no announcements yet. Out of respect I wont speak on these titles I heard of as that's their business to announce. Hopefully they can release within a 3 month time frame from their future announcements.

Wreck,
Do you know rough numbers left for the 3 Mission Impossible releases on Play?
I want to cancel my pre-orders until after payday but don't want to miss out if they're close to OOS.
Cheers :D

There are usually a couple Group Buys held here each time they have a release so if you're active here (which im pretty sure you are ;) ) then you wont miss out for next time. The threads get hyped too in the main steelbook forum so its usually pretty common knowledge in the steelbook collector world when they are having a release. Texans got a tough matchup this week!

Ah, just the thread I was looking for! As mentioned in this post by myself... do you have any idea what a "zero finish" is mate?

safe house and battleship have the same finish if you check on steelbook.com

Yeah I noticed that, but just wanted to make sure as they describe the Tinker Tailor steelbook as having the same finish, but I thought that was matte... shows how much I know. :p

Hey there Wreck,

Been wondrin about nice finishes for UK steels since your post in the Battle Royal thread:

premium is things like ...

Raised lettering
debossing
embossing
silk finish
crackle

Is there any chance that 2013 will see UK get something really special finish wise? embossing is nice, but i'd really like to add something extra special to my small but well chosen collection of steels :)

Even a Lenticular Effect steel would awesome - so any chance a UK vendor will pull out the stops for a big 2013 release?

...like Iron Man 3 for example?

I don't think it's a reliable source. Looks like they use different terms with similar meanings. For example In Time is listed as having a 'glossy finish' yet Dark Shadows is listed as 'spot gloss'. Those two both have very glossy finishes, but are listed differently.

Hey Wreck,

I already asked this a few weeks ago, but could I possibly get another update on the Play.com Godfather stock levels? You answered previously that it was now less than a thousand.

Would it be wise to get this before Christmas do you think?

Quoted just because I'd like to hear more on this, too. The Canadian Looper and German Avatar look incredible but the costs to add them to my collection are a little steep for me. Would be great if we could get a few lenticular covers.

Thanks Wreck, I hope I can finally have the Indiana Jones Trilogy without having to pay for that awful 4th film

Zero finish is as neutral finish - a blend of matt and gloss

Spot gloss is a mix of gloss and matt and is used to highlight certain areas in the artwork.

both finishes are shiny

this info is from scanavo themselves

I can definitely say there are some really cool things coming to the UK next year. :ninja:

And personally I been trying to promote the UK of getting something in crackle. Not the cheapest thing to be done but I'm still promoting it as I'd really like to see another .... esp on a good movie!

If I recall I think the idea of lenticular has been tossed around so there's hope.

Top Gun: Just below 1k
Goldeneye last 1k selling quickly...

Lawless will sell out before release....

Hi Wreck, I cannot believe I've missed this thread.

Personally there have been 3 main issues relating to the recent play releases (although not just play).
1) There seems to be far too much glue being used and not of the right sort. Any thoughts from those on high ?
This happens at a different level of the process. Retailer nor Scanavo do the "putting together of steels" studios use diff outfits to do this for the process. Bottom line ... the more complaints scanavo gets on this they will then have to bug the studios and/or those companies in charge of putting the steels together. (when i say putting together i mean discs inside and paper backings) We may have made some room tho as The Dark Knight Rises only had one glue spot on back ... *shrug*

2) The quality of the shrinkwrap used seems very haphazard and combined with the "overglue" is creating a pock mark effect on the steel. Also the "air holes" in the shrink are creating what look like pear drop holes (usually on the back thankfully), is this because of too high temperature being used in the shrink ? Any changes forecast or is this remain the same ?
Again you will see different shrink wrap from different Countries and diff studios steels from within those Countries. Dont know that there will be much room for change in regards to shrink wrap ... if we can get them to change some other practices like the glue then perhaps the shrinkwrap we collectors can just deal with ;) An OCD collector could open theirs sand re-shrink their own. :p
3) Whilst the thick card used is obviously a cheaper option, the glossier paper such as that used on Battle Royale gives a far better appearance and is easier to remove glue from, and doesn't become like sandpaper on the covered areas of the steel. Who chooses the "surround" material on the Steel ?
Depends on what company is doing the packaging. Again. Perhaps if there was some thread made here with what the ideal way they want a steel packaged ... ie. where they want the glue how much, type of paper etc. it would at least be something we could forward on. I would prefer no glue but im guessing they gotta get that back paper stuck on well enought to then shrink wrap fast. Perhaps just one glue spot in middle back could suffiec instead of those who put the glue on front and back and all over etc.

Sorry if this all sounds a bit negative it's not meant to be honest :D but collectors expect the best from a premium product and it can be difficult with return rates that I have been seeing over the past couple of months.

The first 2 caused the vast majority of returns which I had to make, although not all.

Once again thanks for this forum and this thread.

I hear ya mate ... but you guys gotta give me a plan to then fire back at all without us looking like insanely anal crazy collectors. If it looks like we can never be pleased .. then people will stop catering to us if the demands are too crazy. We need a thread created that keeps it simple, fixes what people hate without everyone in the thread disagreeing otherwise they have no need to fix something that half like and half hate. :p So if someone wants to head up "Project Glue" of whatever ... have at it. :p and then if credible I will pass on to all the major players. I know all the companies involved but I cant talk of some due to private requests.
