So is it going to pass Titanic?

movies average a 20-30% drop per week in the box office.

Based off the 41 million avatar made this weekend, that gives the movie a range like this over the next 7 weeks:

Week 6: 28.7-32.8 million
Week 7: 20.1-26.24 million
Week 8: 14.07-21 million
Week 9: 9.8-16.8 million
Week 10: 6.86-13.44 million
Week 11: 4.8-10.75 million
Week 12: 3.36-8.6 million

If the movie made 0 dollars after 3 months in theaters, this is the total it would be at

579.7-621.63 million

I don't know how long blockbusters usually last, but my guess is that if its over $40 million after 5 weeks, it can survive for longer than 12 in theaters. Unless some major drop off occurs, its probably going to pass Titanic

its absolutely going to pass titanic. thank increased prices and higher 3d prices!

i dunno if its in the article posted, but its only number 40 alltime with inflation :p

yah, inflation kills everything. i dont think theres a movie in the past 10 years that has cracked the top 10.

if they measured things in # of tickets sold, avatar wouldnt touch titanic. still, its a huge accomplishment. im no economist, but its not like between now and 1997 the only thing that has gone up in price is movie theater tickets

AVATAR set the MLK Day record, getting over 11 million in box office sales!!!!!

Also, tonight I saw this for the 3RD TIME!!!! and it was glorious!!!!!! :scat:

i might be seeing this movie again for the 3rd time this weekend. its such a fantastic movie. both times i have watched it in 3D IMAX i got lost and felt like i was actually in pandora.

just dont develop depression because of it. 3rd times the charm they say :hilarious:

I'm already a sad panda and I saw it only once

Man Dies After Seeing Avatar

A 42-year-old Taiwanese man with a history of high blood pressure has died of a stroke likely triggered by over-excitement from watching the blockbuster "Avatar" in 3D, a doctor said Tuesday.

The man, identified only by his surname Kuo, started to feel unwell during the screening earlier this month in the northern city of Hsinchu and was taken to hospital.

Kuo, who suffered from hypertension, was unconscious when he arrived at the Nan Men General Hospital and a scan showed that his brain was haemorrhaging, emergency room doctor Peng Chin-chih said.

"It's likely that the over-excitement from watching the movie triggered his symptoms," he told AFP.

Kuo died 11 days later from the brain haemorrhage, and the China Times newspaper said it was the first death linked to watching James Cameron's science-fiction epic "Avatar".

Film blogging sites have reported complaints of headaches, dizziness, nausea and blurry eyesight from viewers of "Avatar" and other movies rich in 3D imagery.

which begs the question...

which is the best way to go?

dieing during sex, or dieing during Avatar?

Lmao! Reminds me 1,000 ways to die. There was a couple in japan that died during sex. Long story short, they married, both virgins, and months later finally did it. They were overexcited and collapsed/died. :hilarious:

China Bans Avatar For Making Too Much Money!

Avatar will officially stop running in Chinese movie theaters this week as the country's censors feel it's success is taking away from homegrown flicks.

The pulling of Avatar makes room for China's biggest flick of the year, Confucius, starring Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-fat, which opens this Thursday.
