Guys- In light of the right/wrong title debate, surely its somewhat of an irrelevance now?
The steelbook is printed as The Great Mouse Detective- I’m a bit annoyed by the lack of the word Basil, but what can you do? What’s done is done!

Isn’t it all essentially small talk by debating it?

Still waiting for my copy despite Rescuers turning up on Saturday and both being despatched the same day. May give it a day or two more then contact Zavvi!

@paulboland assuming you organize your collection alphabetically and not by Zavvi Disney Collection #, where are you going to put this release? In the B’s or the G’s?

I put them in order of Disney Classic # not the title

Disney collection # on the spine relates to disney classic numbering not Zavvi numbering

Zavvi done away with their numbering over 2 years ago

The number you see now listed on Zavvi website listings over the past 2 years is the Disney Classic # as is listed in UK Disney Canon

This release is #26 in UK Disney Canon

The steelbook and Blu-ray Disc is from Disney UK
Zavvi have nothing to do with the steelbook design or the manufacture of Blu-ray disc itself
All artwork design is done by the film studio/film distributor

All UK Blu-ray discs come from UK film distributors not retailers
Retailers just sell items provided to them by the distributor

UK it's Basil the Great Mouse Detective and is why the UK release has this title on the disc inside the steelbook

Disney UK Classics Canon #26 is listed officially as Basil The Great Mouse Detective
USA Disney canon titles does not apply if different to UK Canon
This is a UK release not a USA release so USA title does not apply for the Blu-ray Disc itself

What counts is what title is printed on the Blu-ray Disc not the steelbook itself

USA the film is called The Great Mouse Detective and when playing the UK disc that is what you see as the title
Sometimes Disney edit films on DVD and Blu-ray to have country specific titles when you play the disc but for this film that was not done.

As this steelbook is a UK release yes Disney UK should have of had Basil in the title on the steelbook IMO when doing the artwork design but it's the Disc title itself what counts and is correct as per Disney UK Canon
But what’s shown on the tv screen title card?

Correct UK or lazy USA title ( :p )

So are you saying that the title on the Steelbook and on the DVD/Blu-ray menu is the US Title, but physically printed on the disc is the UK Title? I feel like majority rules should prevail, 2/3’s using the US Title should dictate that’s the proper title for this release.

But that’s just my opinion. And I’m being silly.
Doesn’t the rear j card say Basil also... that 2 for 2...
lol

Disney Classics is best IMO if filed in order of Disney Classic #

You start out with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs #1
But then, which list do we follow(for anyone outside the US basically....) lol

It make no difference to USA members as their Disney Canon is different to UK :p

UK title is what counts as it's a UK release and USA title does not count it's that simple :D
The official UK Disney Canon applies to all UK Disney Classic releases in terms of what films are considered a Disney Classic and this also covers both a film title and the classic numbering.

Examples of differences between USA and UK disney Canon
Zootopia is USA title and Disney classic #55
Zootropolis is UK title and Disney Classic # 54
Basil The Great Mouse Detective is the title in UK
The Great Mouse Detective is USA title (Both USA and UK it's Disney Classic #26)

Dinosaur (2000) #39 and Winnie the Pooh (2011) #51 are not a disney Classics releases in the UK as per Disney UK canon

Disney Classic # 51 in UK is Wreck it Ralph
The Wild is a Disney Classic in the UK and is Disney Classic # 46 but is not a disney classic in USA
Disney Classic # 46 in USA is Chicken Little
Chicken Little in UK is Disney classic # 45

BOTH titles have 'the great mouse detective' in it so searches should be fine :)

but as for the arguement over right/wrong title...its a balls up of a release. The steel has 'Basil' missing, but the disc and UK (retailer origin) title includes Basil....bloody Disney is :p

As for the wrongs and wrongs of omitting Basil from the title on the front of the UK steelbook it should be remembered that THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE was an unpopular title with the creative talent right from the time when Disney's head honcho at the time made the decision to change the title from the original BASIL OF BAKER STREET and they compiling a satirical interoffice memo listing similar generic titles for some of the best loved films in the classics canon, including:-
SEVEN LITTLE MEN HELP A GIRL aka SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

THE WOODEN BOY WHO BECAME REAL aka PINOCCHIO

COLOR AND MUSIC aka FANTASIA

THE WONDERFUL ELEPHANT WHO COULD REALLY FLY aka DUMBO

THE LITTLE DEER WHO GREW UP aka BAMBI

THE GIRL WITH THE SEE-THROUGH SHOES aka CINDERELLA

THE GIRL IN THE IMAGINARY WORLD aka ALICE IN WONDERLAND

THE AMAZING FLYING CHILDREN aka PETER PAN

TWO DOGS FALL IN LOVE aka LADY AND THE TRAMP

THE GIRL WHO SEEMED TO DIE aka SLEEPING BEAUTY

PUPPIES TAKEN AWAY aka 101 DALMATIANS

THE BOY WHO WOULD BE KING aka THE SWORD IN THE STONE

A BOY, A BEAR AND A BIG BLACK CAT aka THE JUNGLE BOOK

ROBIN HOOD WITH ANIMALS aka ROBIN HOOD

TWO MICE SAVE A GIRL aka THE RESCUERS

A FOX AND A HOUND ARE FRIENDS aka THE FOX AND THE HOUND

THE EVIL BONEHEAD aka THE BLACK CAULDRON

Worryingly, still waiting for this- the postman has just been and still nothing.

As with many other people here, I received The Rescuers on Saturday, and had the despatch email for both of them sent out on Thursday.

Have tweeted Zavvi asking if they know what’s going on here- technically it’s still in the ‘expected’ window so shouldn’t panic, but doesn’t look like many people here have had their copies delivered yet.

So apart from the title issue with #26, the lists were in sync until the year 2000 with Dinosaur which didn't make it on to the UK list (apparently because it didn't do very well). I do recall my DVD copy of Atlantis: The Lost Empire having a sticker on it to correct the text referring to it being Disney's 41st classic to Disney's 40th classic...

Perhaps someone is intercepting them to add the name 'Basil' to the front and spine...
