I understand what your saying apsmith but if you saw the condition my Battle royale came in, you wouldnt belive it. Honeslty looked 2nd hand with the amount of scratches on it.

Then that sounds like a damaged steelbook, 100% and it should be sent back to play.com.

I can't speak for the warehouse checks & balances, but I don't think it's something that should have been sent out in that condition.

My comment was more towards re: Paint chips and the discussion about the finish itself.

Battle Royale had a print run of 4,000.

Confirmed.

yeah i know it's confirmed, just find it puzzling how fast it went oos. With play's "2nd holy grail" you would expect it, but Battle Royal?

Afternoon all... a limited quantity of this one will be going back up to order in the next 5 minutes.

For pre-ordering customers who received damaged copies, right?

If only they could run a disc with exclusive content for steelbook only that would really be something collectible instead of just repackaging the arrow amaray release and even including the same booklet I know it's the steel we all want but a steel exclusive disc even if it was just the artwork on the front of the disc itself would make it 10x more collectable....Not a criticism here just a thought is all as I have myself secured a copy of this magnificent steel...

My theory is quite simple and relies on three factors.

1) New members that have joined this forum for the latest news on play.com and steelbook releases in general. The more people in the know, the more that purchase a copy.

2) People go bananas for embossed / debossed steelbooks.

3) The more time that goes by, the more regular collectors see that play is indeed doing a limited release and is trying to maintain collectible runs...so if people know it will sell out, but don't want to miss out...they get their order in to (hopefully) avoid being disappointed.

No coincidence that this is another one that's all over eBay like a rash. It's not only regular collectors who have cottoned on to the collectability of limited edition Play steelbooks, but every flipper and scalper in the game, who these days buy up in quantity hoping to encourage some rarity and make a killing. Same with those guys who go around HMV stores buying armfuls of the things.

It doesn't surprise me when anything goes OOS quickly these days, for that reason alone. All it takes is that scent of profitability and the hunt is on!

Nobody gives a funk.

Said already, people buy to sell, it was OOS before, it must be worth more than is advertised....except no, because YOU are the one who thinks it worth more so YOU have pre-ordered 25 copies, thats why it went OOS so quick. It'll hang around PLAY.com for a few days still, theyll have a few cancellations over the past 2 weeks once people have seen the top price on *&%$ auction site is around £18

On the steelbook note, it looks ok, film is ok, ideology of it is much better than the movie itself

Still in stock at Play!! Did they con us on it selling out and hold back 3500 copies for release date?? lol

I'd imagine that all have been sold and and Play haven't done a stock count. If you're stuck at order placed then you probably won't get one.

Unlike some other retailers, it's a manual process for play.com to remove an item for sale.

Therefore, in order to avoid overselling a release and keeping a small amount of stock for returns & exchanges, they turn it off "early", but when it is close to selling it's full quantity.

The stock numbers have been shared with HDN and I can indicate to you that there aren't some crazy amount of 3,500 copies remaining and it was indeed close to a complete sell out.

Let this be your last warning. If you are a doubter, get your copy ASAP. We don't want to hear any belly aching because you delayed the purchase.

to those of you considering returning any damaged copies......
considering the problems this release has encountered, is it worth considering the possibility that any replacement copies may arrive in even worse shape than your original order? my copy does have 2 or 3 very faint hairline scratches, but i'm not concerned by it. god knows what might arrive in its place if i did return it!!!!
