No idea, but its getting a tad silly that people are having to order 2-3 copies to be sure of getting a mint one (and some aren't even getting that)..

Yea its a shame :( to be fair tho those 2 were the first bent steels I've had and at least we got Wreck to help get our voices heard, I havent had a scratched spine in a while (hope I dont jinx it lol)

When reading the OP, Premium finish is referring to something else other than de/em- bossing?

To get news out fast, many times if allowed I just copy/paste. That sentence was a copy/paste ... so a person giving info might say its premium finish but the nugget news is whether its embossed debossed ... they wanted to make sure I knew that to pass the word on - so lost is translation is people thinking there is more to it.

Sorry if that is misleading but to me it wasnt misleading as I've seen steelbook quotes before and I know what all is premium finish. Premium finish is that of anything that costs more then just standard

premium is things like ...

Raised lettering
debossing
embossing
silk finish
crackle

so to me, I just knew that since it had debossing that it what justified the term.

whether a steel is gloss or matte is not premium finish.

I'm sorry if anyone feels cheated in any way but if you do so much that you dont want the steel then you can always resell on aftermarket to which you'll easily have no problem not only getting your money back but profiting from. Its a great looking steelbook in my book, and I cant wait t watch the movie so I'm happy this release. I heard rumor that between this one and Oldboy it would be much less likely they could get released elsewhere and/or copied blatantly ... so if that holds true these will be nice collector items. fyi

Thanks Wreck for the clarification. I still feel the listing should be amended as below:

From:

Steelbook will have a PREMIUM finish and will also be embossed / debossed.

To:

Steelbook will be embossed / debossed.

Premium finish to me is super glossy or crack lacquer (i.e. something to do with the paint). I find it odd to mention that Steelbook will have embossed finish as the word Finish is usually applied to the paint quality.

Ok forget the last message there have just turned up so will open soon to check for damage.

Steelbook will have a PREMIUM finish - This is wrong and misleading as it looks like yet another normal Steelbook. In fact it doesn't look glossy at all to me except for the embossed portion.

Yes, I can't see anything premium either ...
Looks like the spine was stuck in the cutting machine

So who is the one that claimed it would have a premium finish? I think its time to stop believing any of the hype until they come out from now on.

This definitely has a premium finish on it. The black is kinda in between a matte/gloss finish (similar to the Shutter Island Paramount steel) and the red blood definitely has a metallic/bling shine to it. This is no dull cheap finish like the Fox steels (just compare the black paint on this to Prometheus and you'll notice the difference right away).

I will have to have these in hand to make judgement about the finish. I think we too often think of premium finish as glossy. It doesn't have to be glossy to be premium.

Just wanted to quote a cross section of comments from the last few pages and clear some items up.

We pass on the information as best as we can from our inside contacts at play.com.

Sometimes things are requested from Scanavo that don't always translate into the actual release.

As a number of you have pointed out - "premium finish" does not mean glossy, but it is a finish above the "on the cheap" finish that USA and other members have seen with the straight matte (basic option) that has been done for the larger waves.

Personally, for the price and the collectibility, I don't think too much bad can be said of this edition.

Now having said that, we are a long way from where we started, with printed ratings logos, flat cases, printed information backs with little or no thought put into the design.

Thank you everyone for the feedback - on a side note, the paint chips are at the manufacturing level and I do know that play is making an effort in getting Scanavo to evaluate their production process and find out where this problem is happening.

There are different levels of "premium" finish as stated by Scanavo. We can only provide the info, in advance of the release as best as we can. (see previous post).

I think we all need to move on from discussing the "nuances" of the finish and all that other stuff - and remember the days when we never had to worry about a release selling out, since they printed 15,000 copies. There are a lot of positives on this, and I feel like lots of folks are fixating on a couple of things. :)

Terminator had a slightly larger print run of 5,000 i believe. Also i've been wondering if Battle Royal for some reason had a print run of less than 4,000. That would explain how it was able to out-perform Iron Man (relatively speaking).

Battle Royale had a print run of 4,000.

Confirmed.

At least if there was 15000 i could exchange my two paint chipped ones for a mint copy ;)

Hoping it comes back for a little while to try and grab another but the recently quality of steelbooks (particularly from play.com) is worrying and also very annoying when youre constantly having to send back steelbook after steelbook due to paint chips, scratches etc that are clearly happening before dispatch

Looking through my old steelbooks theres barely a mark on any and they used to arrive in the old style packaging. The matte finish play.com steelbooks are immaculate

Lets hope they find the problems soon :(

If there was 15,000 I wouldn't buy a single copy. Exactly why I'm passing on anything from a major studio done in the UK.

Avengers.

TDKR.

etc etc. I for one don't want to collect anything that has a major run - given how easy it is to reprint (see Germany).

As members stated, it is very likely to come back into stock for a short time.

So, I would use that knowledge to think about securing a second copy.

In regards to paint chips, etc - that's more of a manufacturing thing - so meaning if you get one that's got something like that - instead of a scratch or a dent, I would thing chances are you'll get a similar one back.

Personally, if it's just a paint chip, I would keep that copy given that's not a major issue.

As stated in our Collectors Condition Guide in the trading forum, if it's a "known defect", like a staple dent or something else that occurs frequently in the wave because of manufacturing, it can still be described, technically, as "mint".

I understand what your saying apsmith but if you saw the condition my Battle royale came in, you wouldnt belive it. Honeslty looked 2nd hand with the amount of scratches on it.

I personally don't see the problem with buying a steelbook with a huge print run. At the end of the day, it's a steelbook, and I collect them.

You will probably find it is the rare steelbooks that get reprinted, not the already popular ones.

e.g. Zombieland germany, matrix trilogy germany, davinci code germany etc etc..

The list of the rare reprints go on.

If it's rare, the companies know they will resell if they reprint.
