If you're a new company and hire someone that has no idea how to setup an e-Commerce site or how to research quality server providers, sure. I get the feeling Novamedia ended up hiring a novice and haven't had the sense to drop them.

Having said that one of my first development jobs was creating an eCommerce system from scratch for a company and that was easy enough. Getting a pre-made one up & running is a piece of cake by comparison.
