one thing I love about FA and PA is, their choice of movies make people watch and look for movies they would not otherwise had.

True -- in this case, it seems a film will be bestowed much more love than it deserves...with others still in the vaults, sadly...

but this YT comment on a trailer had some passion:

I enjoyed this movie, I think Ridley Scott was involved in it and am a fan of pretty much anything he does. Plus had a big cast behind it.

The subject matter seems very much a good choice for a filmarena release, so I hope it does eventually get done. It deserves special treatment IMO. But with so many FAC releases in the pipe line that I assume are coming out before Christmas (Suicide squad, batman vs superman etc) I do hope this one gets pushed to 2017.

Don't bother, you are likely to fall asleep.

The book was bad enough; a badly written potboiler which gorged itself on every bad aspect of life in the Soviet Union and spewed it forth like the wost case of Anti-Soviet propoganda you can possibly imagine!
The film repeats this in a boring, stodgy production that lacks involvement and passion; and is full of very dodgy fake Russian accents

The best you can say is Tom Hardy is watchable - but what he's doing will bore you to tears

An easy pass - this should have been shovelled off to the crap-fest that Black Barons is in danger of becoming . . .

I read the book and this movie is a poor shadow of the book. It's just a huge mess. I recommend that everyone read the awesome book and save this movie for a very rainy day.

@JCC - only real problem with the book is how gloomy it is. Not that it is badly written as some have said; just the sheer weight of the darkness drags you down.

I haven't seen it yet, but yes, the trailer looks like it's a cheap enough production. Almost straight to video type.

Surprised this was considered at all for a FAC release.
