I can't believe there isn't a thread in here strictly for Beer. Well now there is.

So I'm going to Phoenix and this store is about 3 miles from the house I am renting. I need some recommendations of beer they sell. I'm looking for Hoppy beers please. I've had a few of them they sell but not allot. HELP ME OUT!

Thanks

BoB

I've had the Clown Shoes Clementine and the NB 1554. Clementine was really good. Haven't had any of the others, but I really like the stein.

My newest trade should be coming in today. I'll post a pic when I get it.

where the hell you guys at!?

;p

here is my latest pick up ....

1554 is one of my favs by new belgium. and i think one of those beers is an odell, that easy street. ive never had easy street but odell makes some fantastic beer so im sure that one is solid as well. i love their ipa, and they have a dipa called myrcenary that is also very very good. i think they make a bourbon barrel stout that i want to get my hands on someday

i got my surly wet this week! its another awesome beer by surly. not super hoppy and i thought it would be more citrusy since i was reading that they put more citrus hops in this year, but still is great. really wish i could go to darkness day tho!

Nice catch on the Surly. DD is on my list of fests to go to as well, but not this year. I bet Splax is there.

Nope no Darkness Day for me unfortunately. I would of spent too much money if i would of went haha.

I dont know if any of you have heard of The Rare Beer Club but every month they have two different Rare beers that they ship. Prices range from about $40 for two bottles to $160 for 12. I have done it before but started again. I got an open monthly so if I dont like whats coming out I can hold off until the next one. I just got a shipment today and these two beers are the reason for me signing up again. Check it out http://www.beermonthclub.com/the-rare-beer-club.htm

If you're ever in eastern PA, I would check out Shangy's. They are my local beer distributor and they have sooo much. Here is a pic of the show room (just one side of the room). When you walk in, there is a neon sign that says "Welcome to Beer Heaven" :scat:

You are right, its Odells ... at first I didnt think it was all too great, I thought it had more to do with getting it from a gas station and it possibly being too old.

However, after I drank half the bottle I noticed it said that you should pour out half into a glass, swirl the bottle to stir up the yeast then mix ... tried that on 2nd one .... a lot better!

REALLY COOL STORE DAR!

Splax - Didn't know 4 Calling Birds was out already. How rare are the releases?

That's really impressive!

I don't know if it's beer snobbery or whatever, but just about every beer I drink now goes into a shaker pint or tulip glass.

Well right now it was released for the Rare Beer Club. Im sure it will be distributed shortly though for everyone to get some. But once they are gone they will never be released again.

Depending on the beer I use all different types off glasses. Snifters, Tulips, Pint Glasses, oversized wine glasses. You really notice the difference.

beer bread

you guys make beer bread at all? i made my first loaf last weekend with a central waters brewhouse coffee stout, and we are making another batch today with bell's special double cream stout.

the first loaf with the coffee stout was pretty good. i have a recipe that i can post if anyone wants it

I completely agree.

I've made some pumpkin bread with Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale that turned out really good. I can post that as well.

I have not made any beer bread but I do cook with beer often. I made a beer cheese soup using Founders Pale Ale before, also this weekend I smoked a pork butt that I had injected with Founders Breakfast Stout and Chipotle in Adobo sauce and then made a BBQ sauce using Breakfast Stout. Lets just say it did not suck and ive gotten many complements.

That sounds amazing!

I've made a chocolate stout cake a few times. I used Guinness once and Young's Double Chocolate Stout another. I should try with Founders Breakfast Stout.

I've also done beer battered fish using home brew. :scat:

I highly recommend this beer "Moylan's" Orange and Black  I'm telling my closest store that carries craft beer to try and order it as they had other Moylan;s beer.

also, that washington beer "Diamond Knot Brewing Co. Brown Ale" is really good. I believe it or both these had BA ratings ... as to which I bought I think.

The beer "Terrible" which is good until 2016 is not to my liking, its got that fizz that champagne has with the beer .... I got 2 more bottles of it tho, since its good to store. they were $8 a pop.

The clown shoes was good, but I dont like the spices they add to their beers, without that I think I would have loved it.

Going to go pick them up on Saturday (hopefully!)
