I can't believe there isn't a thread in here strictly for Beer. Well now there is.

So I'm going to Phoenix and this store is about 3 miles from the house I am renting. I need some recommendations of beer they sell. I'm looking for Hoppy beers please. I've had a few of them they sell but not allot. HELP ME OUT!

Thanks

BoB

Even though I have a monster trade arrive tomorrow (Pictures to follow), I decided i needed more to drink so here is what I got today.

Founders Backwoods Bastard
B. Nektar Zombie Killer Cherry Cyser
St Bernardus Gift pack. I really wanted the glass so i bought it.

Cheers!!

never heard of the zombie killer, but ive really been meaning to buy backwoods bastard. it seems like this time of year just about everything gets released and i dont get to try all the beer that i want. i still have some octobers/marzens in my fridge that i need to drink up!

but i put BB on my christmas list, so hopefully someone gets it for me then :)

i love the beer-purchase-just-for-the-glass tho, ive done it myself, haha

I'm going to be brewing this weekend, and I love how dirty this sounds, but I plan on brewing a really good brown (ale) on Sunday. I'll probably try to get close to Surly Bender. Might even split the batch, add coffee, and try to get close to Coffee Bender.

thats awesome! def go for coffee bender, as you will soon learn that beer is fantastic! ;)

i got to have it on tap in minneapolis too, and its even better! but i guess thats normal...

If you like meads i recommend B. Nektar. Im only a few minutes away from them so i go to their free tastings every weekend. They distribute near you at these locations.

Sendik's - Franklin
Three Cellars - Franklin
Sendik's - Greenfield
Honey Pie Bakery - Milwaukee
Nessun Droma Italian Restaurant - Milwaukee
Otto's - Milwaukee
RNR Liquor & Convenience - Milwaukee
Roman's Pub - Milwaukee
Sugar Maple Tavern - Milwaukee
Von Trier Tavern - Milwaukee
Whole Foods - Milwaukee
Ray's Liquor - Wauwatosa
Sendik's - Wauwatosa

HAHA

I think they shipped Funky Monky out your way which was really good. Its a dry-hopped cherry melomel

went to the liqour store today to finish off off's trade, and i came across a row of these bad boys:

View attachment 4707

there were about 5 left after i snagged these two. im gonna try one of them this weekend and if its really good ill go back and snag some more!

they werent too expensive either, around $11 each.

i know splax you got one of these in your rare beer club shipment, did you try it yet? theres only a few reviews on BA right now but so far most people think its pretty darn good.

I will pick some of these next time I go to the Bruery.

hmm, rays is my go-to spot since its like 5 miles from my house, and three cellars is a great store but its like a 30 minute drive, so i have to be really motivated to get there.

sendiks is like a high end grocery store, ive actually been very surprised with what they have sometimes even tho they only have one shelf and one fridge of craft beers. its more valuable in the sense that you can get some rarer beers a couple weeks after they sell out of the other stores because for some reason grocery stores take longer to get their shipments on the shelves. i think it has something to do with them making up a bar code for the item if they don't usually stock it. anyways, its always nice to stop in there cause they usually have a nice surprise waiting for me!

but ill def pick up some b. nektar next time i see it!

I've done the beer purchase to get the glass. It's one of my favorite glasses too. Didn't hurt that the beer in the pack was amazing as well.

+1 on the Coffee Bender. I got some in a trade a few months ago, and it was so good. Diva even loved it, so I think if I brew a Coffee Bender clone, I'll have to put a St. Louis twist on it and use some local coffee. I'd probably use Khaldi's Coffee, which is the same that Schlafly uses in their Coffee Stout (came out in bottles yesterday :oohyeah: )

I actually recognize a name off of the Partridge Gots list: MGambleWWS. He's a certified Cicerone out in MA, and one of the co-founders of Clown Shoes. We traded some St. Louis stuff for some Clown Shoes beers.

probably last trade of the year complete

This one is for Darth...

I don't know if he reads this sub-forum much, but he should cause he needs to pick up a case of this beer. :D

PS: I tricked my wife into stopping by one of my fav bottle shops in Milwaukee (I used the line "I'm just going to look at what they have ;)"), and low and behold, a single bottle of Upland Persimmon Lambic was sitting on the bottom shelf. I quickly snatched it up as I decided after sending Off a bottle of the raspberry I needed to try this one.

I'm friends with the store manager and asked him how he got this, said he traded away 6 bottles of something they had in the store (can't remember) for two bottles of the lambic and 1 bottle of Rare BCS (EEK!). He said the Rare sold in one day, for $45, and the lambics had been sitting on the shelf for a couple weeks.

we started talking about founders and i said i missed out on devil dancer, and he goes "I have some bottles in back, how many do you want?" so i picked up 2 12oz bottles of that as well.

All in all, I considered that a pretty good score. But the wife wasn't too happy that I tricked her, hahah

:tear: that doesn't strengthen my case to my wife for me spending $5 a bottle on them, hahaha. i knew it was over priced but i really wanted to try all the founders seasonals this year so i knew what to get next year. oh well, maybe ill still like it!

i dont know when we will have the persimmon. maybe around christmas time this year!

also, you asked earlier what i thought of columbus IPA. i thought it was pretty darn good. i reviewed it on BA too. its probably not my favorite IPA, but its for sure up there.

i also had a bottle of the 4 calling birds last night. man, that is one heavy beer. very complex too. ill go pick up one more bottle to either trade or bring to a beer tasting event and ill age the other bottle i have right now.

That sounds about right I believe its usually $20 a 4 pack

nope its Black Orchid. Its tasty, but I'm not a fan of these beers that have teh fizz. Carbonation? Is Black Tuesday like that?

BLACK TUESDAY!!!! Thanks for being my beer mule Jorge!!!:scat:

EEK!EEK!:drool::drool:

Had a work related field trip last night to the Schlafly Tap Room, and I found a few new favorites. I'm now a big fan of their Winter ESB (on tap) and the 2011 Barleywine (poured straight from the tank before bottling started). I have a new goal: put together a matching verticle of Schlafly's Barleywine and Reserver Imperial Stout. :scat:
