its not about you personally, its about hdn looking after paid premium members firstly thats all.
all the best
basil

It's OK, I'm not taking offence at what you said or taking it personally

I am not a premium member or a regular so I would fall into the category.

I could become a premium member but what happens when premium members outweigh the number of units? Its a difficult problem to solve when demand outweighs supply.

I came to find out how to tip and am surprised to see so much continuing animosity. As I said previously, I'm new to this site; I'm also new to steelbooks (in general) and new to premiums (in particular). You have to start somewhere, though, and that wouldn't be possible if I were shut out of every buying opportunity just because I'm new. The way I see it, anyone had as much chance as I did and I'm grateful for that. I don't consider myself a collector, but I buy the best editions I can of movies I particularly like; not for resale and not to keep sealed, collecting dust on a shelf. I wanted this particular edition because I'm a fan of the film, was willing to pay more for a premium edition and thought this was the nicest one I'd seen (I didn't care at all for the WWA artwork). I also knew it was a limited run, so I tried my luck at the first opportunity I had to get one. If that failed, I would've tried another. I'm not out to have something just for the exclusivity and therefore other people's inability to get it. I just buy things I enjoy and want to share with my son when he gets older.

... and who is to say of those 10 to 15 places that there hasn't been an order on the other site... or multiple orders from here to there and how to monitor?

Don't get me wrong as I like the VIP status as it virtually guarantees me a releas but my post count is practically nil on the other site but have a fair amount of BF releases through this system.

As in everything, pros and cons and I don't order BF here.

I'm surprised you're talking about your experience so negatively. I'm seeing a lot of people (including myself) show support for newcomer's having the same chance as anyone else.

Regardless, welcome to the forum

*edit, I said welcome to you already on page 53. Trust me, we've got nothing against you

We can't stop members joining my GB, then going elsewhere and joining again and again across different GBs. In an ideal world, yeah. That would be down to Blufans to curb as they are provided with everyone's details so could limit it there end, however at the end of the day all Blufans are worried about is getting their $$$ ;).

What I can do however is limit it to 1 x edition only, which we have had to do with Doctor Strange.

I don't necessarily agree with premium member only GBs, but potentially a mini GB with a small quantity from the GB allocation set aside for premium members only which they get first dibs at. A general GB is then opened say an hour later for everyone else to join.

lol smells like Filmarena practices :LOL:

But you know, even If there is like 10/15 allocations for premium members, with such a limited title like Doctor Strange was it still won´t be enough as there will be more of you premium members who wants to secure a copy. It would make more sense for premium members to have equal conditions - hence first open GB for premium only, and then, after 1 hour or so open it for everybody else, but this solution would be even more like Filmarena practices :D and it would mean even less chances for non-premium members of course. Needless to say that this very FA procedure is highly repulsive to me and it´s a main reason of my grudge (maybe it´s too hard, but you know what I mean) to them.

So yeah, it´s a tough job to come with reasonable solution. I´m gonna agree with guys who said that everybody should have equal rights with GB´s. I understand that premium members should have some privileges, but I would make these somewhere else.

My two cents

Also

All this talk of restructuring the landscape of the site over one release..ONE release. One release that happens to be limited and caused a scene. I personally don't think anything needs to change around here

THIS!

I feel like my suggestion of a blufans HDN VIP scenario on the last page was ignored when I genuinely think it's a great idea

Plus with a premium membership on this site there's only a small section that having the membership allows you to view. It's not much really except a few extra threads, birthdays and a few other GBs

I have nothing against newbies or non premium supporters at all and everyone is entitled to buy but any other place or site where you have a "premium" membership then the perk and selling point is usually to get tickets, items, prints, collectables etc etc a day quicker than a general sale (like 02 priority for example)

So if there was 10/ 20 guaranteed places on a blufans release for premium members before the Rest of the GB goes up to everyone else (Premium or standard) then it's a cool perk as part of a premium member and it's not singling anyone out because that's what a premium membership usually entails

Plus more people will start becoming premium members for that perk bringing more money to the site to support it

Like i said, you have a small GB esque thread and then when it opens to blufans HDN VIP members then the first 10/15/20 members to reply with their name is guaranteed a copy and you can do this on all editons be it a single lenti, double, FS or 1click. Then after it goes up to buy now for everyone else premium and standard members

This isn't a dig at non premium members or newbie collectors or collectors who don't post much and I agree with @matthewtheunicorn about the contribute a bit more like liking posts etc but when you have a premium membership these are the perks that are usually awarded to members. Happens everywhere

Whichever way we do things is never going to please everyone.

Like I said, things are being looked into for the next GB that comes along with very small limited qty

As a new member to the site and someone who didn't try to get a copy of this I would just like to say

I like this site as all are equal when ordering - first come first served , which to me is the fairest way

While I am new everyone on this site has been helpful to me and while I have only known the new system it was so easy to use and fair.

On this site it really comes across that regardless of views everyone loves movies and is excited about the releases

I would hate this site to become somewhere where all members are equal but really some are more equal than others

This has been the only time this has happened so why is everyone asking for change?

Ps I would just like to give a shout out to all those who ran this group buy as it must have been a nightmare when it went wrong and yet you managed to get extra copies for those who ordered ,

That is why I love this site

I'm surprised you're talking about your experience so negatively.
I don't mean to sound that way. I, in fact, had a good experience and you were welcoming and gracious. I was referring to the discussion since where people seemed to be mad that non-prominent members were able to secure a copy. I also concede that it's just that, a discussion, and was simply offering my perspective. As I also stated earlier, I thought the whole affair was well handled by the hosts, who went above and beyond to please as many people as possible. That's the foundation of loyalty.

i just love what you said.

Personally I've really enjoyed the exclusivity of this release. Hopefully future releases have a similar print run. Makes nabbing one that bit more gratifying.

Sorry but it just seems a bit selfish to me. Don't get me wrong, I hear what you're saying and I know you're not trying to upset anyone, but it's very easy to say all that having secured your copy. Luckily I also secured a copy, with "luck" being the operative word. If we get this print run for a fairly major release in future I may not be so lucky.

Personally, knowing that a particular steelbook has 2000 copies instead of 3000 doesn't improve my enjoyment of that steelbook in the slightest. I'd much rather know that my fellow collector's didn't miss out, but I guess not everyone is that considerate...

That is only a benefit to re-sellers and scalpers and is not a help to collectors
A highly popular film should have the standard print run of 4,000 it still sells out and still a limited edition

Maybe you should tell that to your buddies over at Zavvi mate.. You made a point to tell us the other night you were on the phone to one of them after all.. What about all their ultra limited print runs that become scalped to hell

Well said people really need to calm down, one release from 150+ Group Buys that went smoothly

If you look at cooeys post it's all to do with the very small quantity releases that were always going to be sought after like this

If blufans pull that again with guardians 2, Thor 3, rogue one etc etc etc then the same will happen and it will be this thread all over again

So the change if there is one won't be for every release

Makes complete sense to me IMO and it won't completely reconstruct the landscape - it may not even need to happen if BF keep to standard print runs
