I actually cancelled my order last week because i was dissapointed with the june 5th Japan wave and didn't want to waste £40 on a equally poor steelbook for a film i already own on 3D... However the syeel might not be anything like the other wave and might be amazing, but i dont want to gamble £40 away so i will wait for pics before ordering again :)

I am totally agree with you, I am on the verge of cancelling my order specifically as it doesn't even have 3D so I won't be able to sell my English copy.

I wouldn't cancel if I was you! I reckon anyone that cancels will kick themselves when they realise what a beautiful and amazing steelbook this is and the japanese writing will IMO only increase the value when this sells out!

I canceled mine as well. I'll wait for a 3D steelbook some day. I really loved the 3D-effect in this movie.

Pluss of you look at the pic of the steel you can see those sort of brushed lines coming from top to bottom which suggests a matte finish as that is only present on matte and never on glossy steels :)

Im gonna look such an idiot when this turns out glossy and embossed :hilarious:

the japanese writing on spine ruins it for me
It's all about the Japanese writing on this beauty that's what makes it desirable mate ;)

In this game you have to weigh your options and be smart about what to get & what not, Warner steelbooks are a huge let down and not worth the investment due to them being released over and over again all over the world, just avoid them and wait for local release if you really want instead of splashing unnecessary money (postage & possibly custom fees on top).

My guide & rule of thumb for Japanese releases are:
1) Warner Release AVOID at all cost 'even if it makes it's first appearance in Japan 'or elsewhere as a matter of fact' it's ought to pop up somewhere else sooner or later and most likely much cheaper)
2) If its a World Exclusive Artwork (WEA) with Japanese Writing anywhere on the actual steelbook case (i.e. Dredd/Lockout/Iron Sky/BTTF/Police Story etc) then it's a must/no-brainer;
3) If on the other hand it's a Worldwide Release (WWR) and comes with a full slip (Underworld/Harry Potter Deathly Hollows Pt 1/Battle Los Angeles etc) OR a see-through slip/leaflet/film cut etc (TGWTDT/Inception 1st Release/E.T./Jaws/TDKR etc) then it's a worthy purchase for shizzle;
4) If it's again a Worldwide Release + limited print-run: for me personally I'd skip and await pictures/further info to see if it comes with a unique quarter slip (i.e. Paul etc). However most of the latest slips from Japan have been a let-down, poor tiny paper-quality so-called slips with not much design or effort put into them 'compared to TW & KR', for that I'd take the risk in not preordering but if it turns out to be something special and it sells out on preorder then tough: ebay/forums is your best but I am more than happy to go that route rather than taking any chances and waist a lot of money on all of these WWRs ;)

So to sum it up buy this beauty it's a no-brainer :thumbs:

Hmm...desirability. For me, the Japanese writing makes this steelbook LESS desirable. It's the only steelbook of the movie, and the artwork looks good, but there's no 3D. If it were a desirable steelbook it would surely have sold out by now; other less interesting steelbooks sell out much more quickly.

It will sell out after pics are released for sure. Just like Loockout. And we all know how desirable that movie was :hilarious: Thats what make the Japanese steels candidates for grails. They fall off the radar and then boom, sold out and worth a grip on ebay.

Bu I agree that I perfer no katakana on the actual steelbook.

The fact that it doesn't include the 3D version doesn't bother me because I don't have a 3D TV and most likely wont ever, if not at least for a few years (I like the visual aesthetic of film better and don't tend to enjoy digitally shot movies and 3D movies tend to be shot digitally and even worse are heading down the 48 fps path). Also, I already own the Canadian Dredd that came with the 3D so if I want I'll just play that one. But I definitely understand why people are miffed by this, especially considering it would have probably only cost them a dollar more to include it

The Japenese title gives the character his full title, JUDGE DREDD, that to me makes it desirable.
