These websites should allow anyone who wants a copy to register and get issued a number (like an order number), then have that entered into a draw, the numbers selected are then given 24 hours to pay via PayPal or else they lose it.

If too many people try to get the more popular selection, then their chances are clearly reduced by the competition. Try for a less popular selection, then your chances increase.

No messing around for hours on end, no upsetting their customers.

What happened was at 13:59 GMT the website crashed. Fast forward to half past and the website is just starting to work again 1 in every 5 refreshes. 13:45 they start putting the pre-orders live but after about 30 seconds before teh full slip can even go live teh website crashes again. No one completes an order until 16:00 and then veyr few do. the website was up and down. people got logged out and carts emptied. You had to go through so many stages with the purchase that the site couldn't take it and you had to be REALLY lucky to get access to the site with each stage. every click of a button meant 98% chance you'd be kicked back 4 stages.
Nightmare.
Too much traffic. Too many keen Drive fans.
If the servers could take it the steels would have sold out in a matter of minutes. 9 tops.

So basically a raffle? Yeah no retailer is ever going to do that. As the chances are you might never get what you want. Steelbook collecting is a selfish hobby, while we might feel bad for those that didn't get one, we'll feel great that we did, it's as simple as that. This community is a godsend in helping each other securing titles either by GB/trade etc, but there are still thousands of posts by those celebrating the fact they got an order in on an item, they certainly shouldn't be made to feel bad because others didn't. It's basic commerce, some win and some loose. That being said it would be nice if Nova's site actually worked properly when these high demand titles come up for ordering!

Very lucky to have gotten one. Was up at 5am. Supposed to go live at 6am and nothing, everything crashed. Drove to work while still trying to refresh it and try to get one. Didn't even work for the first 2 hours to try to get one. Just when I was about to give up 3 hrs later I was able to check out with the full slip. Very excited. First time buying from nova and might my last. Next time I'll just join a GB.

Exactly...And also when the one click option went OOS, the site was fully operational...Spooky

I've only recently started collecting steelbooks and had come across pics not long ago of this one, but thought to myself I haven't a hope in getting it because I'll be working an I'm nowhere near a computer.
Today I managed to get 10 mins to slip out of work to check novamedia website just to see if I'll be lucky or not, but as 2pm hit it crashed. Refreshed just a few times so gave up because i had no time to wait.
Came home today about 5.30pm UK and just had a quick check to see if they're gone or not. At first they said *out of stock* but I kept checking just a few times then I noticed it saying *in stock* for a full slip so I jumped at it!
Overall it probably took me 15 mins of trying. I'm absolutely buzzing! Guess it's beginners luck! Lol

Congrats Wobler, it's great to hear stories about collector's such as yourself that "win out" - nothing like the feeling of getting that amazing collector's package of one of your favorite films!

Can I ask them to combine it and may be refund some of the shipping cost? Anybody ever try this?
It might be worth asking but I don't think they will do it. They would have to refund you shipping costs so I'm guessing you won't be able to combine orders.

Damn this thread is bananas, over 50 pages in a day! I didn't think I'd have it in me to read through all the drama but it was such a rollercoaster of emotions (mostly negative!) that I just did it. Seemed like an absolute nightmare and if this isn't an excellent advertisement for HDN Groupbuys I don't know what is! Over 2 hours of insanity I would have been pulling my hair out.

If anything I figure sites like novamedia (or indeed any with trash servers) that have multiple versions of the same product should do what they can to eliminate such a huge cluster of people all dogpiling the site at the same time. In this case, you have people who want the one-click or perhaps just a lenti or a 1/4 slip. I honestly think the allocation of each edition should be sold at different times - hours apart in order to dissuade the entire market from killing the weak servers by all converging at once. If not that then you simply need to take the Plain Archive approach of investing in a more solid infrastructure... it's clear sites like Nova and Kimchi aren't built to handle the huge collector army trying to bust through the gates - with all the frustration caused when they do break through, its with torches looking to burn the place down. :D

I didn't know you had to be trained on a Marine special forces course to have to place an order with Nova? Weak from the strong???:squint:EEK! :asshat::wow::LOL:

My point was people were going to miss out no matter what. If they had beefed up servers like PA it would have not lasted 1 minute. I knew this and tried telling you all. There were 2 group buys and was mentioned alot in this thread. Just calling it the way I see it.
