Hey guys! I've been asked to gauge the response of our membership here and your feedback will help determine if this steelbook and potentially other steelbooks like it become a reality! I hope you are as excited as I am about this opportunity to weigh in on the beginnings of the steelbook process.

If you're not familiar with Mondo, and what they do, here's a small overview...

Mondo creates limited edition screen printed posters for our favorite classic and contemporary films, in addition to vinyl movie soundtracks, VHS re-issues, and apparel. We also have a permanent gallery space in Austin, TX featuring a mix of original artwork and limited edition screen prints.

What could set this steelbook apart?

1) As we already said, Mondo artwork
2) For part of the finish, a number of layers of paint can be applied to the steelbook. Whites appear whiter, and color contrasts should appear starker when seen in person.
3) HIGH GLOSS
4) No debossing or embossing as it would detract from the new "layered" effect
5) WEA artwork
6) Potential minimum print run of 4,000 units

Where would this steelbook be released? I can't say right now, but let us know your feedback. If you have other design ideas, let us know, and maybe they will be included in the final product!

This really needs to happen. I love that art so much. I really don't think this would ruin the love for the HMV version and I own that and constantly have it on show.

If I can make a suggestion, make the pink on the title font brighter for the steelbook. Otherwise, um, yep... great idea for a steelbook and would be great to see other Mondo posters turned into steelbooks!

I love the Mondo posters! These steels would be my favorite by far, bring them on!

And btw, I already have a Drive amaray but would let that go to get this one, I will be first in line for the GB

My vote is kimchi and have 2000 full slips and 1000 quarter slips. Price them at $34.95 and individual numbering.

My only concern is the "potential" minimum print run of 4,000. I feel like 2,000 is a the maximum number the print run should be, 1,000-1,500 would be ideal, and anything over 4,000 would be a disaster.

I am sure people would have no problem paying a little more to keep the print run under 2,000.

I would in all likelyhood purchase Mondo designed Steelbooks.

Just look at The Raid. UK version was steelbook of the year and the artwork on the German version was even better.

is it possible to use Metallic Inks on a steelbook? Just imagining it in my mind, a steelbook with metallic inks would look pretty badass.

I think collector's would rather have more limited print runs and to prove it, look at all the retailers following suit. You have Zavvi releasing a ton of 2k print runs that are selling out fast and you have Kimchi instantly selling out 1k print runs. This seems like the future to me.

yeah, but those runs are simply not possible all the time, due to a variety of factors. But based on what I know our feedback is being sought because the ideas in the OP are being pursued, so hopefully our members continue to share their feedback based on the info that we can share to date

I'm going to get grief for this but I would actually prefer zavvi to release this (I know I can't believe im saying it) or an amazon exclusive so everyone can just order without worrying about group buys and stuff. But only if zavvi got it completely right. Just my opinion

I think this is a great idea for future steelbooks. I don't mind the 4k runs either, means more people will order these. It would be pretty great if you also owned the poster that went with each Steelbook.
