Thank you for the heads up dominic I hadn't heard about this, just changed mine.

Not heard about this... It says change as standard practice, so i guess its nothing really to worry about, but i guess its wise to change it ;)

I will wait for an ebay email before doing anything in case its a load of rubbish, although i doubt that...

Thanks for the info dominic

Got this message when i logged in:

"Ebay is asking its users to reset their passwords due to the unauthorized access to our corporate information network. This may result in a delay of service due to the high traffic volume. We ask for your patience and that you return to eBay soon. In the meantime, please be assured that no activity can occur on your account until your password is reset"

What kills me is that this breach actually appears to have happened in the February and March timeframe and eBay is just now informing us 3 months later?

Supposedly detected two weeks ago. Compare it to the Target data breach where they responded almost immediately. Target's breach had a larger financial impact then this one though as of now, but that can change. When Target first released the impacted customer list, it kept growing, so this case isn't closed in my opinion. I changed my password for what it's worth.

actually a few weeks ago, I can't log in so I changed my password and noticed that there is a different email address attached to my account, so I had to re-do it several times. looks ok now though.

Iv'e got this message from ebay when i login to change the password so ill do it know straight away to be on the safer side...

Hello,

Earlier today eBay Inc. announced it is aware of unauthorised access to eBay systems that may have exposed some customer information. There is no evidence that financial data was compromised and there is no evidence that PayPal or our customers have been affected by the unauthorised access to eBay systems. We are working with law enforcement and leading security experts to aggressively investigate the matter.

As a precaution, we will be asking all eBay users (both buyers and sellers) to change their passwords later today. As a global marketplace, nothing is more important to eBay than the security and trust of our customers. We regret any inconvenience or concern that this situation may cause you. We know our customers and partners have high expectations of us, and we are committed to ensuring a safe and secure online experience for you on any connected device.

As we announced Wednesday, we are asking all eBay users to change their passwords to help ensure the trust and security of all eBay customers.

Recently, our company discovered a cyberattack on our corporate information network. This attack compromised a database containing eBay user passwords.

What’s important for you to know: We have no evidence that your financial information was accessed or compromised. And your password was encrypted.

If you are a PayPal user, note we have no evidence that this attack affected your PayPal account or any PayPal financial information, which is encrypted and stored on a separate secure network.

We understand that changing your password may be inconvenient. We are doing everything we can to protect your data. In addition to the security measures we have in place, we are asking you to change your password as a precautionary step.

If you have more than one eBay account, you should change the password for each account. If you used the same password on any other site, we encourage you to change in on those sites too.

Here are other steps we are taking:

· As always, we have strong protections in place for both buyers and sellers in the event of any unauthorised activity on your account.

· We are applying additional security to protect our customers.

· We are working with law enforcement and leading security experts to aggressively investigate the matter.

Here’s what we know: This attack occurred between late February and early March and resulted in unauthorised access to a database of eBay users that includes customer name, encrypted password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth. The file did not contain financial information. After conducting extensive testing and analysis of our systems, we have no evidence that any customer financial or credit card information was involved. We also have no indication of a significant spike in fraudulent activity on eBay.

For more information and updates, go to info.ebayinc.com.

We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this situation may cause. Nothing is more important to us than the security and trust of every customer in our global marketplace. We know you have high expectations of us, and we are committed to ensuring a safe and secure online experience for you on any connected device.
