I always remember going to see it for the 1st time and there was one sequence in which everyone jumped out of their seats. Never went near the ocean again!
Haha, we went to a beach showing where they had block up screen. There was bonfire, it was at night, lots of fun. Our backs? To the ocean. Scary as hell, LOL.

Quick question for USA-can anyone explain what a "Regional" release is (2nd tab on the page)? Is it correct to assume that only some shops will get some of those, and what is allocation based on?

OK this is my list. A few years were awkward. 1982 because there were so many great films. 2005 because it was such a dire year I struggled to find anything good. I keep to one film only per year but there were a few years I would have loved to have done 2.

1962 Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

1963 The Birds

1964 First Men on the Moon

1965 The Damned

1966 Dracula Prince of Darkness

1967 Quatermass and the Pit

1968 The Devil Rides Out

1969 The Valley of Gwangi

1970 The Railway Children

1971 Get Carter

1972 Solaris

1973 High Plains Drifter

1974 Dark Star

1975 Jaws

1976 The Outlaw Josey Wales

1977 The Spy Who Loved Me

1978 Halloween

1979 Alien

1980 The Empire Strikes Back

1981 An American Werewolf in London

1982 The Thing

1983 The Dead Zone

1984 The Terminator

1985 Fright Night

1986 Aliens

1987 Predator

1988 Die Hard

1989 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

1990 Goodfellas

1991 Silence of the Lambs

1992 My Cousin Vinny

1993 Demolition Man

1994 Speed

1995 Goldeneye

1996 Matilda

1997 The Fifth Element

1998 Mullan

1999 The Matrix

2000 Miss Congeniality

2001 A Knight’s Tale

2002 Catch me if you Can

2003 Master and Commander

2004 Mean Girls

2005 House of Wax

2006 Snakes of a Plane

2007 Resident Evil Extinction

2008 The Ruins

2009 knowing

2010 Iron Man 2

2011 X Men First Class

2012 Django Unchained

2013 Gravity

2014 Guardians of the Galaxy

2015 Jurassic World

2016 Arrival

2017?
Interesting list! I expected some surprises from you, but there's a lot of real shockers in there, which is cool.

Surely you could've done better than House of Wax for 2005 though? :censored:

I've never as much as dipped a toe in the ocean since and it's the only film ever made that had a direct impact on my life. Before it I never thought twice about swimming in the ocean.

I was surprised how bad that year was. I struggled to get anything I'd like. Easily the worst year in all the years since 1962 for good films.

Wow! I actually almost had a tough time with 2005 (Kong obviously won for me). I personally thought it was a very good year.

That's what makes these lists so fun, though! :)

I nearly was going to pick Kong but I find House of Wax a genuinely creepy film and I was thinking. "Yep I could see this happening in real life. Every year thousands of people disappear and what if a lot of these people encounter a death trap of a town none is aware of... A vastly under rated film in my opinion.

It was a very good horror movie, that's for sure. Plus it's not every day that you get to see Paris Hilton die.

This was horrible, I mean like a severe form of torture. Take 1997 for example: Spawn, Event Horizon, Starship Troopers, The Lost World:Jurassic Park, Con Air, AirForce One and the winner The Fifth Element are all films that I love! How are you meant to choose??? In the end, some years I just could not pick between films and have had to put them in as joint favourites. Funnily enough, it got easier to pick from 2010 onwards.

You big cheat! I demand you do it all over again. :p

Seriously though... good list! Quite a few of those almost made it on mine too. ;)

This is an awesome list! I really need to see La La Land. I'm not huge on musicals and I thought Whiplash was overrated, but this film has been getting so much love, so I definitely need to see it.

I was blown away with La La Land, but I like musicals.
Grease was my guilty pleasure when I was younger... :emb:
