Only for very limited exceptional titles as they have nothing to lose as they know it will sell out. Other titles they could not care less.

Received an email yesterday at 11:23pm notifying me of a new release Steelbook. I can never understand the logistics of Zavvi, without HDN I'd be lost.

Haha, i didnt even know about this steelbook release, just checked my emails and "BAM!!" There it is...........gone. Just have to see if it comes up again. "LET THE GAMES BEGIN!" Haha!

Even maximum 5 copies each is still a lot for one individual order.
I agree when it's a very limited release especially when it's limited to 500 or 1,000 and in high demand Zavvi should have a limit of 1-2 per customer
I know some will have multiple accounts under different names and address to get around this but at least if you have a limit it will reduce a lot of orders of 5 copies if it's has a limit of 1-2 copies
You cant stop it fully but reducing to 1-2 copies it does help

Amazon adapt this approach when they see huge demand. For example IT steelbook Italy, they restricted to one order recently.

I like to see Zavvi do this for ID4 resurgent :p

Topic appears to be low print runs vs. standard print runs . . . on U.K steelbooks (not premium and not costing 50 quid a pop)

My personal position is that low print runs are bad for the collector and good for the scalper- that they are an invitation to the scalpers to pick up as many copies of desirable titles as possible in order to offer them for sale at extortionate prices (see Post #439 as an example).
Happens time and time again with very limited releases of desirable titles. How else can you explain the speed at which the recent three "Limited to 500" titles ("Salt", "Hellboy" and "Pineapple Express") sold out or even the Superman five film jumbo steelbook "Limited to 1,000" and stands to reason that it's down to re-sellers and scalpers filling their boots and for NO OTHER reason.

Speaking as a collector and not as a re-seller I welcome a fair chance to pick up my *one copy - fair chance?. . . this was patently NOT a fair chance . . . going "live" at least half-an-hour before 6PM . . . for a desirable title with only 1,000 pieces . . . really despicable!
*On very rare occasions nowadays two copies of desirable titles such as this one and "The Burning". Why two copies? one for the collection and one to swap for a title that I may have missed at the time and which has since gone OOP/OOS such as the following from this year - the "Superman" jumbo (1,000), "Stand by Me" (2,000?), "Amelie" (2,000), "A Few Good Men" (2,000?), "Young Guns" (2,000?), "Kill Bill 1 & 2" (2,000? / 2,000?) and "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" (?).
Missed all of these for whatever reason but probably because got greedy and they didn't hit my target prices.
Used to buy two copies of each U.K. steelbook from the beginning in 2008 until around mid 2012 - one to watch and one to keep sealed - but when they started to churn them out I was not able to put as much money into the hobby as I had done previously.

Steelbooks going out of fashion (LOL) . . . funnily enough I posted something similar around the middle of the year when I noticed that there were considerably fewer releases than at the same time last year but now into November that situation no longer exists and to paraphrase the great Mark Twain "The report of my death was an exaggeration" :-
2016 steelbook releases = 214 approx. Jan-Dec
2015 steelbook releases = 234 Jan-Dec.

Knowing Zavvis old tricks, they're probably just going to put back up the rest of the print run!

Pretending it's 'in demand'. :p

Since when did Zavvi care about scalpers?

They did it themselves when they put back up extra copies of It and The Burning at higher prices than originally.

Not uncommon for Zavvi to pull this trick but lot of Premium retailers do this as well.

Zavvi have cancelled large bulk orders before on high demand releases that was limited print run but you don't see members come on HDN post they canceled my order for obvious reasons:LOL: ;)

it was exactly MSRP (retail price) when "the burning" came back in stock. amazon often does exactly the same thing (asking full retail price right before items go OOS/OOP).
we are just spoilt by all the discounts given all the time :p
