Well, I ordered 2 copies due to receiving damaged copies in the past and unfortunately only one arrived and has fine scratches on the front. I have been dealing with zavvi customer services by twitter and it would appear they sold the small remaining stock the other day. I was told on Monday that stock was held and I could return for replacement, but only to be told yesterday that all stock held has gone. They are refunding me for the 2nd copy not received :( I have been in contact with Eureka who have said they have had lots of messages about the damage and are trying to find out where in the manufacturing process this has happened. They hope to have an update for me in the next week. Has anyone who has been in touch with Eureka directly actually had a replacement issued???? Thanks

Yup my replacement arrived last week direct from Eureka
They emailed me the following:

Sorry to hear you received a damaged copy of the Fright Night SteelBook, we have been made aware that quite a few of Zavvi’s customers have been receiving damaged copies.

We are currently trying to ascertain at what stage in the manufacturing process these damages have occurred, and if we have enough spare parts to supply replacement cases. I should have an answer on this next week and I will get back to you hopefully with good news!

It was better condition than my first one, no scratches or paint chips on the front, but still faint scratches on the back

Thanks for the reply, I do wonder what when on with the manufacturing, I have not seen a truly mint copy of this anywhere on line. I can see the faint scratches on the front on the copy I received from zavvi but I've kept it sealed for now.

It reminds me a little of how impossible it was to get hold of Stephen King's The Mist, with every copy then having a loose disc due to the second disc coming off the central spindle.

Yesterday I finally received my price promise refund back since I ordered with the higher price when it first went live. But I needed to ask two times and afterwards now it took a over a week to make the transfer.
But who am I getting annoyed about such matter when so many peeps missed out. I kept it sealed till now, since I open when I watch, but now I'm scared after reading about so many fine scratches. So I'll probably open it to check and watch the movie today. Fingers crossed for all who missed out till now that you get your copy for retail!

Received my refund too but I didn't even have to ask.

It's interesting hearing about the paint scratches. Mine was fine in that regard but has a very noticeable sharp dent on the front. But my lenticular Monsters Inc. had VERY bad scratches all across the back and even carried onto the front. I counted at least 20 scratches, like someone had drawn a blade across it repeatedly. I got a replacement which still had scratches on the back but luckily they were so light and hardly noticeable I just quit while I was ahead.

Received my refund too but I didn't even have to ask.
Some customers asked but a lot did not contact zavvi
Zavvi auto did the pre order price promise last week so any of the customers who previously asked would still have got the price difference if they had not contacted Zavvi
Zavvi usually you have to contact them to get pre order price promise but with this release it was to all customers who ordered at higher price
Be cool if this is done with later releases when price drops before release date customers auto given the difference in price but I would be surprised if that happened.

Yup, this is word for word the same e-mail I received. Mine has some faint long scratches on the front and back, one paint chip on the side and bottom. I hope there will be some sort of replacement program for customers who received damaged steelbooks.

Looks like you got the same steel as I have. Those faint scratches are annoying but not enough to return for this steelbook. It's one of those where you gotta live with it lol

So apart from Pain and Gain, this looks like no cancellations are going to appear live. All the cancellations have been given to those that retuned theirs for the QC issue. Very rare for an item to sell out and not return in stock.

The mystery remains, Eureka saying 2,000 copies, but Zavvi advertising it as only 1,000.

Is that letting slip Zavvi's propriety when they state quantities available?

Tricky, tricky, tricky situation this . . . as in whatever happens next there will be at least one group of very annoyed people:

- If they print another 2,000 they will make all those who missed out happy with a big "H" (should have no problem selling all 4,000 of this cult title - doesn't seem unreasonable/unrealistic going by previous interest in the plastic cased Twilight Time releases).

- If they print another 2,000 they risk making all those people who paid GBP 30+ for this steelbook unhappy with a big "P".

One thing they will do is release for sale all copies left over after the returns have been sorted but I suspect they are waiting to see how many more replacements they'll have to send out before they put the remainder on sale.

Of course the very best thing they could is an Entertainment Store JACK REACHER style replacement programme combined with any or all of the above.
