From IMDB
The Los Angeles Times talked to Dan Aykroyd about Ghostbusters 3 that is in development at Columbia Pictures. Here are several excerpts:

Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

"We could be in production by winter."

Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This."

The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

female ghostbusters?

passing the torch?

awwwww.... "When there's something strange, in your neighborhood... who you gunna call?" "HE-MAN! HE-MAN! HE-MAN!"

I hear about that this morning, sorry but there's a female ghost buster I will walk out of the theater or just not watch it all. Can't sit there while they destroy my favorite kid show.

I don't understand what a female ghostbuster would bring to the whole storyline. It works fine without a female, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Then we would have to see a new redesigned female ghostbusters outfit and it would be corny...let the guys handle the ghosts.

well we should have seen the girl thing coming if not women would complain about not being in the movie.or they could be going after the female crowd.but passing the tourch wtf.

Sure, I'll give it a view just to see, but I bet it's not going to have an impact like those average joe ghostbusters.

If they go through with this they'll no doubt use highly attractive women which will ruin the whole realism the first ghostbusters presented. Let me esplain.

Some average joe college grads who, rather than major in underwater basket weaving, decided to study paranormal science and using their maverick like abilities find a way to hunt down and trap ghosts. No doubt you got the guy who's the brains behind the science (Egon), the other who's the smart and socialogical open minded type but has his dumber charm (Ray), and then the guy who just came for the pizza and free beer (Peter). They then (in keeping with the times) hire on guy-who-needs-paycheck-and-doesn't-really-care-until-the-end Winston.

Unless they do some sort of crazy cool character development that makes me fall in love with the new characters (and not their looks) I will be pretty critical of what "women" become the "new" ghostbusters. Not because I'm sexist, but because that's what made ghostbusters cool.

Yeah... woman GhostBuster... erm... weird.

They should just have the woman answering the calls and getting the beer and pizza! I don't care if that's sexist God damnit! *slams fist on table* :p

I would like to see Jack Black and Paul Rudd as Ghostbusters, haha

really he hasnt ever been funny to me.i would prefer the kinda big guy from fanboys .

female ghost buster??...I'm so going to dislike this movie if they get Megan fox to play one..epic fail...or even some so called "Hot" bimbo blonde from hollywood to play a ghost buster....it would Def take away the realism as the ones before.

i just dont see the idea of the chemistry of females & males, since in the start they stuck with the Joe guys....It's like adding a Female Darth Vader with Boobs Plates on her black outfit Batman nipple Style....

Wow, and I thought you guys weren't a bunch of narrow minded douche bags?? :BS::BS: I'd elaborate but I can see it would be pointless. :dunno::dunno: Very disappointing. :(

That's not it, is just that you can't fix what's not broken. Did you ever see the original cartoons? if so when was there a female ghostbuster? just doesn't fit in.

Actors are human beings!! Men, women, eh?? The possibility of a woman being considered and your dicks take over! I imagine whether they use a man or a woman it wouldn't do the classic Ghostbusters justice. They should just leave that **** alone!:D:DEEK!EEK!

Hey I am one of those that say they should just leave it alone, even Bill Murray didn't want to do it. It's a nice franchise that doesn't need a new fresh beginning. Really they should of just left it alone.
